Universal Screener Resources Google Folder
There have been some changes to Universal Screening since the Fall screener:
Elementary Schools:
Encoding is an area required to be addressed through our Universal Reading Screener three times per year. This information will be used in conjunction with other data sources for ILP-D decision-making purposes.
1st-3rd graders:
Administer the encoding measure(s) provided through aimswebPlus.
4th-5th graders:
Administer the Elementary Spelling Inventory provided through the state. Click here to access. Test administrators are provided a script with sample sentences that present the words in context. Proctors will utilize the provided word lists and cut-off criteria to determine if a student has a spelling deficit. Please keep the original student answer sheet for students until the end of the year. It does not need to be placed in the CR.
This assessment may be administered by whole group, small group, or individually by any teacher, including the teacher of record. However, the grading of this assessment must be done by another teacher, not the teacher of record.
Middle Schools:

ILP-Ds from the Fall screener should be in TN Pulse before the completion of the winter screener. If the Fall information is not in TN Pulse, you will need to cross-reference data from both the Fall and Winter screener when making decisions on ILP-Ds.
ILP-D
We are continuing to learn about ILP-D and communicating that to stakeholders. The latest updates are in our canvas course. Please enroll so that you will have the most up to date information!
You will want to finish plans for students flagged from the Fall screener soon as the next screening window is quickly approaching. You can identify and write 504 plans for those students who qualify for both an ILP-D and 504 after the winter universal screening window.
A few reminders to consider:
ILP-D plans do not indicate a student is suspected of a disability.
504 plan may indicate a student may have a suspected disability.
For this reason, an ILP-D does not exempt a student from the 3rd grade promotion law. A 504 Plan may exempt a student from a the 3rd grade promotion law.
Data Meetings
Data Meetings may look different as we move forward following new state guidance. The team is tasked with matching interventions with the specific area of deficit for each student, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed. The team needs to meet at least quarterly and after each universal screening window.
MTSS Platform
Many of you were able to attend the first training for our new MTSS platform. If you would like to view or review the training, click here. You may begin creating plans in the new platform now.
