"With every rising of the sun, think of your life as just begun." - Ella Wheeler Wilcox
I received this email from an LCES family tonight...
"I just wanted to say that I am very grateful for all you and your staff sacrifice to teach the children of your community...wanted to express my appreciation, such as it is. Or perhaps this short video clip does a better job."
With Apprecation:
- KITCHEN TEAM: you were amazing this week - the lines were smooth, the food was good, and our new kiddos and littlest ones were able to navigate our system with your support!
- OUR TEACHER TEAM: This has been a challenging week, and you all (each in different ways) were guiding your kiddos with a smile, were supportive as things were happening, and were open when new kids kept arriving into classrooms. I'm so fortunate to work with you.
- MARKUS: You are a renaissance man - skunk wrangler, sink fixer, rose bush arborist, and more...on top of your daily routine and all you do to support our team.
Hmmmm...Where is...???
If you are not certain where a student is (i.e. they don't return from lunch/recess/prep) but there was no note left for you or no one contacted you, please give the office a call so we can ensure we know where everyone is.
Field Boundaries
Please talk with your team about where the boundaries are on the field, and be sure you communicate those to your students. If you open the field, please ensure there is adequate and watchful supervision.
New Information/Things to Do:
- INCLUDE THE OFFICE TEAM: If you send home a newsletter or communication that involves info about field trips or special events in your classroom, please be sure to copy our office team on the email or forward it to them...it helps us when parents call with questions
- DISTRICT WELLNESS PROGRAM: give them input via this 5 min survey
- CLEVER SINGLE SIGN ON: FYI - here's the website for Clever: https://clever.com/in/wpusd
- WELLNESS COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP: Please respond to Hannah Ritchie's email (sent on 8/24 at 4:30ish pm) for info on how to submit your name as our site rep.
Older Stuff/Reminders
- ACCESS TO CLASSROOMS AFTER SCHOOL: it is our office policy that we will not allow students into your classroom after school unless you are present. At lunch/recess/prep, we made need to let a kiddo in to get a backpack when they are checking out, but you'll know someone was in there because a pink note will be left on your chair.
- BARNES & NOBLE GIFT CARD: if you did not get a $5 B & N gift card from the staff room on Tuesday, come see me...I have one for you! :)

To Consider:
Snagglebox is a free resource to support teachers who are working with autistic students. It was recommended to us by a parent of an autistic child at LCE. Check ou the free 7 day "email" class - you receive a quick summary of tips, tricks, and strategies into your email every day for a week to build your capacity when working with autisic children.
HOMEWORK - TO KEEP OR NOT? Here's an article with interesting evidence/rationale about having no homework (aside from reading) in elementary school; the picture below presents a paradigm for learning - note that homework isn't in the visual.
