THANK YOU to all the families who helped make a Spooktacular Halloween Party!
News from Ms. Hess
Fifth-grade mathematicians focused on learning to apply their work with division to real-world problem solving using multiplication and division. Next week, we will begin working with adding decimals and understanding decimal place value.
In literacy, we read fairy tales that were new to us such as The Seven Ravens and The Rough-Faced Girl. Fifth graders learned that fairy tales appeal to their sense of danger and darkness - not at all like the Disney stories! We read another fairy tale of our choice to compare and contrast with one of our shared reads. Ask your child which fairy tale he/she read!
Writers worked with a partner to write a collaborative spook story including personification, an idiom, and suspense. We hope to finish up by Wednesday and read them aloud with flashlights for a spooky presentation.
In science, we learned about the nervous system and the sensory areas of the brain. We did some fun brain games that are linked below. Ask your child which was their favorite!
Our Second Step goal is predicting other people's feelings. Predicting other's feelings can help one have empathy and compassion and help us adjust our behavior based on another's feelings. Next week, we will focus on accepting and respecting differences (What a great one for all of us during election week!).
