Mrs. Wilson's Language Arts Class
October 19-23
6th Grade This Week
Tuesday we talked about good leads. We looked at what are some good techniques to use to start writing a narrative paper. The students had to try two of the techniques. Some of the students said that they already had a technique in their original writing piece. Other students really pushed themselves to try something new with their writing. I can see the rewards with these students.
Wednesday we wrote a flash draft. This means that the students re-wrote what they had written so far and they worked on putting in more of the writing techniques that we have talked about in class.
Thursday the students worked in groups with people that had similar writing goals as themselves. They worked on helping one another revise their writing.
Friday the students did the same activity as Thursday but with their second goal that they wrote. It is great to hear their conversations and feedback to one another.
7th Grade This Week
Tuesday students were given time to complete a quotation mark assessment, work on annotated text, or complete any editing that they needed to do to their writing piece so far.
Wednesday students looked at a exemplar writing piece and compared them to the checklists that we have been using.
Thursday the students used the checklist to look at their own writing. They made a list of the items that they needed to add into their writing for revisions.
Friday students decided that after looking at their checklists on Thursday, they wanted a refresher on figurative language. We also looked at different types of conflict and how conflict could be intensified in our writing.
