Scan QR Codes on Chromebooks

Use QR Codes on Chromebooks- #100
Chromebook & QR Codes
QR codes can be used in different ways. You can have them in centers, rotations, or even scavenger hunts on campus. I wanted to share some ways to use the QR code that involves getting the students up and moving around:
The QR code generally serves as a function to complete a challenge. It may be the challenge itself (finding the QR code) or it might simply be what you scan to complete the rest of the challenge.
Here are just a few ideas on how I would use them on campus. Don't forget to ask admin if you can have campus-wide scavenger hunts:
- Have QR codes setup around campus with sticky-tac on them. The sticky-tac allows the students to take them down from the wall to scan them on their Chromebook. The QR code could lead them to a math problem, website, Google Slide, etc.
- Have your class split up into groups by colors. Print QR codes on colored cardstock for each group. Each group is only allowed to find their colored QR codes. Again, the QR code takes them to a math problem, website, Hyperdoc, Google Slide, etc.
- Have math problems, articles, websites, etc. hanging around the campus. While at that location, have students solve/read the information. Make the QR code a Google Form where students fill out their answer. The Google Form could also be setup as a Breakout EDU form using response validation with short answer. The response validation will make the Google Form check the answer before they move on.
- Have clues that take students to their specific color-coded QR code. Once they find the QR code, they take it and bring it back to the classroom to use their Chromebook to access the QR code.
Lots of ideas and ways to use them. Do what's best for you and your class. Try one way and if it doesn't work well with your class' specific needs, try another one.
Don't forget, if you're needing an extra person to help out, let me know. I would love to help!
Tips:
- If you laminate the cards, make sure it is non-glossy laminating paper
- Be as specific as possible with directions before beginning the scavenger hunt
- Be sure to explain Chromebook use and care. You might pick one student who has their Chromebook case to use their Chromebook in the group. This allows the student to to make sure their Chromebook is zipped up while walking to-and-from locations.
