Phoenix News
Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
March 15, 2020
Parents and Students,
During this very unusual moment in our lives, there are lots of unknowns! I'm sure you have many questions regarding the end of the 9 weeks, STAAR testing, TCC classes if GCISD is out and TCC is in session and many others. At this time I don't have answers, but we are working to have answers in the very near future. The one answer that I do have is Collegiate Academy is not in session the week of March 16 - 20. I hope to update you with information regarding the week of March 23 - 27, by end of the day tomorrow, Monday, March 16. As always, I welcome your emails and try to answer them as quickly as possible. I understand this is a time of heightened anxiety and the more we know the better it feels. Please know, when I know, you will know. I share with our students that there are 5 strategies for success and number 5 is Be Grateful! I am so grateful for the Phoenix Family! You are the BEST! We will get through this together PhoenixStrong!
Here is the email I sent on Friday:
I understand there is some confusion regarding the information that has been shared regarding school closure for GCISD and Tarrant County College. Both GCISD and TCC have announced school closures for next week, and GCISD will also be closed the following week at the recommendation of Tarrant County Public Health. As we learn more on a daily basis, there will be further updates from the college, and District, during this time. We will work to provide you updates as they become available. As for now, there is no school the week of March 16- 20 for Collegiate Academy students.
Thank you for your patience as we determine the best course of action to keep students and staff safe and healthy.
I do have some wonderful news to share with the CA family! Collegiate Academy is now the proud owner of a golf cart! Don Perfect from Oncor and Dewayne Smart from Smart Realty presented us with our golf cart the week before Spring Break! This will help us move around the campus and provide more support to our students. We can't thank these gentlemen enough for their gift Check out the picture below!
I will be in touch soon with more information!
Stay Well!
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Counseling News:
Now that Spring Break is over, we are on the home stretch on finishing these college courses. That can only mean one thing: it's getting close to time to sign up for new college courses. Mr. Cavanagh will be going to your Pathways classes this week to teach you all how to read your transcripts and ensure that the information on them is correct.
Also starting this week and continuing until the end of March, Mr. Cavanagh or Mrs. Kirk will meet with your student during their pathways class to check in on their four year plan and make sure that they know which classes they should be signing up for on April 20th for the Fall. That means that your students should be considering what they are interested in and start thinking about what classes they may want to take so that we can help get them all set up.
Finally, in the week leading up to April 20th, Mr. Cavanagh will be in their pathways class one last time to ensure that all of our students have their classes in their cart so that all they have to do on the 20th is press submit. If there are any problems with the courses please let Mr. Cavanagh know sooner rather than later so that we're not scrambling in August!

2020 Census
Beginning in March 2020, students and families in GCISD will have an opportunity to respond and participate in activities related to the 2020 Census. An accurate representation of our student and family population is important for future federal funding implications. Beginning Mid-March, families will receive a letter in the mail with a code for someone to complete the census online or over the phone. It is encouraged to complete the census upon receiving the code so there is not a need for follow up communication or an in-person visit from a census representative. Please be assured that census data is confidential and forms are available in 13 home languages. Below is more information in English and Spanish if you with to learn more:
