Coaches Corner
Cudas,
What a great win this weekend! We have kept our winning streak alive at 4-0! We defeated the Deerfield Dolphins in our pool with even more time drops, Invitational qualifying times, and lots and lots of ribbons! The coaching staff is again speechless at the talent and skill we see in the pool each week! I can speak for all the coaches when I say, we are so proud of all the achievement and improvement so far this season. Keep up the great work!
The rest of this weekend, many of our swimmers will be competing in our second mid-season Invitational, Summer Thunder. Good luck to all of our swimmers competing Sunday and Monday! Because of the number of swimmers attending Summer Thunder, we will not be holding regular practice on Monday, June 5th. I will be posting a workout for those of you to complete on your own time at the lap pool. I would like you to take this Monday to rest. We are halfway through the season and I want all of you in full force to finish out strong! We will resume practices on Tuesday-Thursday morning.
This week our practices will be focusing on more endurance building. We will spend Tuesday reinforcing drills, Wednesday will include more endurance and we will finish off the week with our normal meet prep. This will include diving, turns, finishes and relays.
I would also like to address some feedback I have heard regarding practices. I truly appreciate the comments/concerns because it allows me to clear up any confusion or miscommunication, as well as allow myself to gain insight and continue striving to be the best coach I can be.
For our 11u practices, we allow the swimmers to stay in the water because they are cognitively mature enough to handle listening to instruction without having to get out of the pool (most of the time). Our 9/10s are right at the cusp of being 11u and we do give them the privilege to stay in the water. They earn their privilege by staying quiet and listening to instruction outside of the pool. For our younger swimmers, 8u, it looks a bit different. They are our biggest age groups and can be our loudest. We make sure they are out of the water and quiet before we start our instruction.
Each practice can run differently, when we are focused on drill/stroke technique, we tend to give them more instruction out of the water, and they may not be swimming as much. Because butterfly and breaststroke are cognitively more difficult, we try to spend much of those focused practices on instruction and repetition of drills. On our endurance/sprint days, we have them doing much more yardage to incorporate the skills they have learned. My goal for all the swimmers is to teach them correct technique for the most effective stroke formation. I would rather our swimmers swim less yardage each practice doing strokes correct technically, versus much more yardage with incorrect strokes (forming into bad habits). I strive quality over quantity for our practices. I truly want only the best experience and equal opportunity for all of the swimmers.
This week we take on JV Stars! We will space out the Stars for our Themed Practice Thursday. Wear space attire for #tpt. Let's keep our streak alive this weeks and beat the Stars!
A huge thanks again to all our parents, volunteers and board members. Our team wouldn't run without you. Please know you are greatly appreciated!

Candy from your coaches
The Cuda Coaches want to see the swimmers after they swim each time at the meet!
When your Cuda gets out of the water after swimming in each event, have them go see the coaches. After giving them constructive feedback, the coaches will give your Cuda some candy!
This is a great time for your swimmer to ask about a DQ (disqualification) or to find out what to do better.
It doesn't matter if your Cuda is a 6 & under or an 18 year old, the coaches want to give them a high five and candy for their awesome swimming! Don't miss out!
