Principal's Message
What a week it has been! Despite the tremendous heat, we made it. Thank you so much for the many families who attended Back To School Night last night. It was great to meet and see you, and I hope that you found value in meeting your student's teachers, learning about their classes, and walking the hallways of our campus. We really value partnership with our families, so I invite you to communicate with your student's teachers as the year progresses. Remember, we want your student to get involved. So whether it's joining an existing club, starting a club or joining a sport through Boys & Girls Club, we want them to build connections.
This week began our Lunch League in which students have an opportunity to play in organized games led by our PE teachers. Currently we are playing dodgeball and it has been a hit! It's a really fun way for our students to play during lunch and get the wiggles out before their afternoon class. Academically, many students have begun to access our Academic Power Hour that runs from 2:50 - 3:50 pm in our Learning Commons Mondays through Thursdays. We have a teacher who provides support, so if your student needs extra support in an academic subject, this is a wonderful opportunity. Finally, we kicked off our PTSA fundraiser this week. Your contributions go to fund numerous programs and initiatives throughout the year. On behalf of our school, we appreciate any contributions you may be able to offer.
Remember that we do not have school this Monday due to Labor Day. I hope that you are able to relax, enjoy quality time as a family, and stay cool. We will see you Tuesday! And, remember, Tuesday is a Block 1-3-5 day.
In gratitude,
Scott Wild
Principal
Counseling Update
September is Suicide Prevention Month when individuals, organizations, and communities join their voices to share the message that suicide can be prevented. At PTMS, we will recognize the week of September 19 as Suicide Prevention Week. On September 19 we will meet with all of our Wolves through PE classes to discuss protective factors, warning signs, and how to get help. California State Assembly Bill 2246 requires this very important information be made available, but if you prefer to Opt Out your student, please click here.
The Ninth District PTA, in partnership with Rady Children's Hospital, is presenting the third annual Suicide Prevention Symposium. This event brings parents, caregivers, educators, and health care professionals together to learn about suicidal ideation in teens and share strategies to prevent youth suicide. The September 17 (9:00am-12:30pm) virtual event will include a full day of presentations by leading experts, interactive discussions, and workshops. View the event flyer with more details, including the day's agenda. To register for the event, visit the event registration page. For more information and resources on Suicide Prevention, please see the Suicide Prevention Page on the SDUHSD website.
Free parenting classes are available through SAY San Diego. Check out this flyer with details for their next parenting classes which will start this month.
