What is Component 4B?
- Being able to track students' assignments, grades, progress with the material,
- Keeping track of those non-instructional tasks.
Why do we need to know about component 4B?
Component 4B is important because
- We must be able to keep accurate records of instructional & non-instructional tasks.
- We are able to monitor student learning & adjust instruction as needed.
- Teachers may keep records formally through a school database or learning management system (LMS). Examples include: edmodo, schoology, blackboard, or moodle.
- A less formal way can be anecdotal notes in students' folders.
Elements
Student completion of assignments
- We must keep accurate records of students' work to ensure that they are learning the material and completing assignments.
- Our method of record keeping must be effective, efficient, and complete.
- At times, students can participate in record keeping.
Student progress in learning
- We must keep up with documenting our students' progress with their learning.
- Students are able to contribute and understand how they are progressing with the topic at hand.
Non-instructional records
- We must not only maintain instructional records, but also non-instructional records such as: lunch ticket count, attendance, hall passes, field trip forms, etc.
- Our way in doing so must be accurate, effective, and efficient.
- If appropriate, our students can assist us with maintaining these records.
