Strictly Come Dancing season six hit the BBC airways back on the 20th September 2008. This time the show had two more celebrities then season five, featuring sixteen celebrities in total. Season five six of Strictly Come Dancing will also be remembered for being the last series featuring Arlene Phillips on the judging panel, who was replaced by Alesha Dixon, winner of Strictly season five.
The hosts for season six of Strictly Come Dancing were once again Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, with Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Phillips, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli back on the judging panel.
Once again, Strictly Come Dancing followed a similar format where dancers performed in front of a live show, judges then rating their dancing out of ten, combined with four scores with a maximum of forty points. Once again, the public were allowed to vote for who they want to stay in Strictly Come Dancing from their most recent performance. Score from the judges and public are added together to see who will stay or leave the show.
Strictly Come Dancing Season Six contained the following celebrities, on order of their exit from the show. EastEnders actor Phil Daniels, who was paired with professional dancer Flavia Cacace. Gillian Taylford, another EastEnders actress who was partnered with Anton Du Beke. Third to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing was Gary Rhodes, a well know chef. Another EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace, teamed with Darren Bennett was the next to leave. Then Rising Damp actor Don Warrington, followed by Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster, seventh to be eliminated was GMTV presenter Andrew Castle. Heather Small from M-People was next to exit, followed by Cherie Lunghi and political editor John Sergent (who withdrew). Jodie Kidd was the tenth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing, followed by the One Show presenter Christine Bleakley. Former rugby international Austin Healey was eliminated from the show the next week. In Third place of Strictly Come Dancing season six was presenter Lisa Snowden, and runner up was Rachel Stevens, former S Club 7 singer. The winner of Season Six Strictly Come Dancing was Holby city actor Tom Chambers, who paired with professional dancer Camilla Dallerup.
Rachel and Vincent had the highestaverage score of 35.8, with the lowest average score for this season of Strictly Come Dancing of 17.5 by Gary and Karen. Lisa Snowden managed to score forty points three times during the show, for the foxtrot, Cha Cha Cha and Quickstep. The lowest score for this season of Strictly Come Dancing was by John Sergent, with twelve for the Cha Cha Cha.
A night To Remember proved as popular as ever bringing in over 12 million viewers for the final on the 20th December. This was the number one rank for all UK television for that week. The overall viewing figures were usually between 8 to 10 Million.
Once again, Strictly Come Dancing has proven to be a massive success and hugely popular on UK television sets and throughout the world.
