Hello from the principal's desk!
Dec 7, 2017
Still, so much going on over here! I hope you and your family are well! Ruby has a new hashtag, #WeAreRubyStars. Use it on Social Media when you post pictures of your kids loving life at Ruby Bridges! Tag us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Send us pics of Fun-A-Thon!
Speaking of Fun-A-Thon, thanks to PTA for hosting another spectacular event. Special thanks goes out to Elaine Sumner for taking on the challenge of organizing and running the event! Please look below for fundraising totals...
Speaking of fundraisers, our 5th graders start selling chocolate tomorrow as a fundraiser to support our scholarships for Science Camp. Please consider buying a bar to support our school, they are GOOD! Boxes get handed out tomorrow after school from 3:00 - 4:30, or through LEAPS after school. Please help us make Science Camp a continuously funded program for many more 5th grade classes! Also, we have a Go Fund Me set up, please share to your social media... we already have $1,000 raised!
BOOK FAIR has arrived at Ruby Bridges! The official start is next week, Monday, 12/11 - Friday 12/14. More info can be found on a link on our Media Center website here. The schedule is also below! Don't forget that supporting the Book Fair also supports our school, as some of the money comes back to our teachers. We also have a wish list from our teachers, please consider buying them a book too!
Please join us next Friday night, the last night of the Book Fair, 12/14 from 6:15 - 8:00 as we participate in Winter Craft Night. Please bring cookies to share, and make something pretty to decorate your home. Look below for a flyer.
Lastly, we are in the middle of The Hour of Code! If you don't click on any links on this newsletter - CLICK HERE. This short 5 minute video is one of my favorites, and it explains why kids should be coding. Seriously. Mr. Lundholm and I are visiting all of the 4th and 5th grade classes tomorrow to show this video above and give them some time to code. Honestly, many of them are probably more advanced than me at this point with their time spent on CodeCombat. Ask your kids to show you what they can do!
With gratitude,
Jesse Woodward

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming!!!
Winter Book Fair is coming Monday December 11 – Friday December 15th
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits.
Remember, all purchases benefit our school. See you at the Book Fair!
Hour of Code THIS week
Hello from the Ruby Bridges PTA
The Fun-a-Thon last Saturday was a ton of fun! At least 150 kids ran an obstacle course, danced, and jump roped for 2.5 hours! There was music, festive balloons and yummy pastries and bread from Semifreddis! A very special thank you to Elaine Sumner for leading the event, to Ms. Ratto for designing the activities, and the many, many parents and teen volunteers who helped during the event.
Please return all donation envelopes by Friday, December 15 to your teacher or the front office. So far, only $3744 has been raised. The target was $7500 based upon previous years. If we do not reach the target, the PTA will be forced to make cuts in the budget for assemblies, field trips and classroom enrichment materials. Please consider donating if you have not already. Go to Ruby Bridges PTA website (http://rubybridgespta.wixsite.com/rbpta/donate) to donate online.
As holiday shopping gets into full swing, please remember that 0.5% of your purchases will be donated to Ruby Bridges when make your online orders through Amazon Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/20-5051029 Log in to your account by going to www.smile.amazon.com. Select 5982 Ruby Bridges Elementary as the charitable organization. Grandparents, aunts and uncles can also set up their amazon accounts.
Winter Craft Fair is Friday, December 15 at 6pm in the Multipurpose room. A festive family event including a winter photo booth, craft tables, cookie bar, and a visit to the Book Fair!
