Get Involved at CES!

CES is seeking volunteer mentors for our one-to-one Buddies program. The program utilizes community volunteers to assist students with difficulty in language arts. Volunteers will be working with First and Second-grade students, helping them to become successful readers and confident students. Sessions will be held every Monday and Tuesday from 8:30-10:30 A.M. Training is available, and a background check is required. Please call Lori Kouba at (517) 592-5131.

Principal's Corner

Thank you parents for making our start to the New Year such a smooth start! I value our partnership and I want you to know we could not do this without your help and support every day. It truly takes a village to raise a child. As we move into February you will see many opportunities to volunteer. We have our PTO meeting on Feb. 2nd, Book Fair the week of Feb. 6th-10th, Book Bingo on Feb. 10th, and a Virtual Parent Training on "Routines at Home" on Feb. 15th from 12-1pm. We are also having an awesome Family Night on February 15th from 6-7:30pm. There are so many opportunities to participate in your child's education, please make plans to help out with at least one of these great events! Also we are always excited about "March is Reading Month" and that is just around the corner. Be on the lookout for more opportunities to support the school.

Again, thank you for the daily support you give the school, the teachers, support staff and myself. Have a great February!

Kindergarten Round Up

Save the date and spread the word! Kindergarten Round Up will be on Wednesday, April 5th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Attendance Matters!

Showing up to school greatly impacts a student's academic success. Families play a crucial role in ensuring that a student gets to school safely and on time daily. We understand that absences are unavoidable, such as illness or medical appointments. Please call in advance if your child will not be in school.

COMFY COZY DAY

Comfy Cozy Day at CES is the 1st Wednesday of every month!

Show your Little Eagle Spirit!

Don't forget, every Friday is Blue and Gold Day!

BRRRR!!!

As the weather starts to get cooler, please remember to send a jacket, gloves and hat to school with your student. It is a good idea to put your students name inside in case it gets lost!

We are so grateful for Mrs. Phelps and all she does for our students and staff!

Counselor Corner

Hi Little Eagles!

In January I did minute meetings, where I was able to check in with every student K-2 and find out how their year was going. I loved having these quick chats with all our Little Eagles!!

Save the date: Career Day will be Friday, April 28th this year. Forms will go home in February for volunteers who would like to help make Career Day great! (It will be in person this year)

* This month our Character Trait focus is: Kindness *

We will be exploring the importance of showing kindness to ourselves and others.

Defined as: A selfless act when one helps others without expecting anything in return.

~ I will also be visiting all classrooms for a fun lesson on kindness this month!

Please feel free to reach out if you are in need of resources or if there is a way I can support your student or family this year. ashley.phelps@myeagles.org or 517-769-8557.

Nurse's Corner

February is National Children's Dental Health Month!

Lifelong habits begin at home. Make dental health a part of your daily routine by sharing these reminders with your whole family:

- Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime. Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.

- Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.

- Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.

- Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning.

- Protect your teeth by wearing a mouth guard when playing sports.

- Don’t forget to change your tooth brush regularly, and after an illness.

Sweet snack facts:

Eating a lot of snacks with sugar may cause cavities.

Every time you eat sugar, plaque in your mouth mixes with the sugar to create acid. The acid hurts the teeth and causes decay over time. This can be painful!

Please reach out if you need help finding a dental home for your family!

With Covid-19 and the flu becoming more prevalent this time of year, I encourage you to keep an eye out for signs and symptoms and make our staff aware if your student comes into contact with anyone who is sick or who has tested positive for Covid. Since our protocol and policies are always changing, we can inform you of what we are doing at this time to keep our staff and students safe and healthy. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help you or your student in any way.
