The Cheetah Chat

Ms. In's Inside Scoop

March 16, 2018

Dear Creek View families,

I had the pleasure of joining our 5th grade students as they visited Webb Bridge MS today. It was great to see the excitement and anticipation they have for their future! Webb Bridge MS did an excellent job of informing the students all about middle school and all the new opportunities they have to look forward to. Be sure to ask them about it!

Please remember to attend our fabulous Basket Raffle and Auction hosted by our PTA next Friday evening at Creek View. The funds raised from the event will support our new STEM Lab for the upcoming school year so come out, enjoy the entertainment, spend time with friends, and see if you will win one of the amazing baskets. It's sure to be a fun night!!

I wish everyone a wonderful weekend! Go Cheetahs!

Cheetahs Helping Others!

Creek View has partnered with Holland East School in Michigan to help them raise money to put the book "Wonder" in the hands of their students. Holland East is committed to serving their 600 students, 75% of whom receive free/reduced lunch and 10% of students who are homeless. They are also a model school for inclusion committed to serving students of varying disabilities. We would like to help raise money to support them in their efforts to provide every student with their own copy of the book "Wonder" to read. We will have the following activities for students to participate next week for a donation of $1:

Monday - Hat Day

Tuesday - Crazy socks/shoes and crazy hair day

Wednesday - Superhero Day (no weapon accessories allowed)

Thursday - Favorite Team Spirit Day

Friday - Pajama Day

Got Grit?

Yes, we do! Our teachers have been working hard to teach our students to have grit and it shows! I see students focusing on trying their best and having perseverance rather than focusing on not doing well or the challenge being too hard. Their "growth mindset" way of thinking is helping them approach challenges with new courage and I love it!!!

Project Based Learning (PBL)

The 5th grade TAG students did an outstanding job presenting their Research Contract PBL projects. I learned a lot about endangered animals in Georgia, lung cancer, air pollution, childhood hunger, genetics, and plastic surgery. It was amazing to see the in-depth research the students completed for their projects.

School Governance Council (SGC) - Vote March 19-23

The SGC is in the process of electing a new parent representative. Voting will take place March 19 - 23. Please take a look at the candidate statements located on CVES website by accessing the link below and be on the lookout for an email with the voting link next week.

International Day - March 30th

We have begun planning for our fabulous International Day event on March 30th. CVES families represent over 24 countries! Please consider collecting some items/artifacts that can be displayed and shared on International Day. We would love for the students to be able to experience and learn about as many different countries and cultures as possible! Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMAS) - April 12 - 24

All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will participate in the upcoming state mandated Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMAS) from April 12-24. This is a chance for students to show what they know! 3rd and 4th grade students will be assessed in reading, language arts, and math. 5th grade students will be assessed in reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. Although the test may bring some stress and anxiety for some students, we are focusing on having a growth mindset approach to the test and teaching students to approach the test with confidence and to look at it as a way to show off what you know. It may help students to feel more confident and comfortable if they are able to practice some questions beforehand on the online testing platform. An online tutorial and practice tests are available at the following link:

Study guides are available at the following link:

Birthday Celebrations

Some families choose to celebrate their child’s birthday with a class treat at school. While this is completely optional, these treats are served in the cafeteria to the child’s lunch class only. Students may not serve snacks/treats to peers that are not part of their lunch class. Our cafeteria manager, Chris Schram can provide frozen treats including slushies in a variety of flavors and frozen yogurt in birthday cake flavor at a cost of just $18 per class. The order form is located on the CVES website and in the front office. The order form along with payment should be submitted to the cafeteria at least 2 days in advance.

Morning drop-off begins at 7:10 and ends at 7:40

Please remember if you are dropping off your child in the mornings through the carpool line, the earliest your child may be dropped off is 7:10 am and carpool ends promptly at 7:40 as students must be marked tardy if they are not in the building by that time. Please remember to account for the time that it will take to go through the carpool line once you arrive on campus. The busiest time for carpool is between 7:30 -7:40 so please plan your travel time accordingly to avoid your child being marked tardy. Once the 7:40 bell rings, we must stop the carpool line, and parents must park their car and walk their child in as school has officially begun. Students cannot exit the car and walk across the parking lot or car lanes without being accompanied by an adult. Thank you for helping us ensure that all students arrive in their classrooms safe and on time!

Cafe News

On November 1st, we will begin providing Grab & Go breakfast for our students. We are excited to provide Grab & Go breakfast as it will allow students to take their breakfast so they will be able to get to their classrooms sooner and have extra time to prepare for the start of their day.

The monthly school lunch menu may be accessed through our school website or at the following link:

Calling All Volunteers!

Creek View could not be successful without the help of our wonderful volunteers. It truly takes a village, and what an amazing village we have! If you would like to volunteer at Creek View this year, please make sure you complete the FCS volunteer registration process to become a registered volunteer. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and 24-48 hours to process by the district. You must be a registered volunteer before you will be able to come in to help with a class event/activity or any school event. UPDATE: If you completed the process last year, you do not have to complete it again this year. Please access the following link to complete the registration process:
