Braemar Mission
The École Braemar community works together to provide a caring, respectful, and inclusive environment where learning is engaging and meaningful.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
These past few weeks have been filled with much activity. Cross Country participants will participate in the Cross Country meet this Thursday at Loutet Park. Basketball is in full swing with students in Grade 7 enjoying their season. We would like to thank parent volunteers who support these events and assist with transportation and coaching. Thank you to parents who come out and cheer our students on too! It is great to have these sporting activities back after a long absence due to the pandemic.
We would like to remind you that if your child is sick please do not send them to school. We continue to make a collective effort to keep our school community healthy and your cooperation is greatly appreciated in this regard.
We wish our South Asian families a Happy Diwali next week! May light and love fill your homes.
Until the next bulletin!
Sandra Singh, Principal & Cheryl Ham, Vice Principal

Traffic Reminders
Please remember to respect the parking bylaws around Braemar. Neighbours need access to their driveways and garages. Additionally, please do not drop off children directly at the three way stop at Mahon and Evergreen Place and PLEASE do not make u-turns at the three way stop. This is extremely dangerous and unsafe.
Please drop them off in a place where they can use a cross walk. If you are able, we encourage you to walk or roll to school. Moreover, please do not use the staff parking lot as a drop off area for your child or a turn around. The parking lot is open to parents and guardians to use after 4 pm for after school game pickup or community run programs in the gym.
Your cooperation in keeping everyone safe is greatly appreciated. It takes ALL of us to follow the rules and set good examples for our children.
Dressing for the Weather and Call Back Procedures
Autumn has been unusually warm with sun filled days. That said, we will soon begin to head into colder, wetter autumn days and it is important that students dress for the weather. All students should be prepared to go outside during recess and lunch on most days, with the exception of severe weather days. For younger children, a spare pair of socks and clothing is strongly encouraged as they often are attracted to the inviting puddles in the playground!
On another note, please ensure that your child arrives at school on time. The first bell goes at 8:43 am and the second bell at 8:48 am when formal instruction begins. Please do not send your child early to school as there is no supervision available both in and outside the school.
If you know that your child will be absent, please be sure to log your child's absence on Safe Arrival.
Halloween at Braemar
This year students will have the option to:
- Wear a costume. You're child's classroom teacher will contact families to provide further details as to when costumes may be worn.
- Not wear a costume, and dress for a regular school day.
- Wear Halloween colours.
There are a few restrictions as to what is appropriate for school for students choosing to wear a costume:
- Students should avoid wearing costumes that are too long in length as they can create a potential tripping or falling hazard
- No costume masks that cover their entire face
- No scary masks, including those that bleed and can frighten younger children
- Being mindful and respectful of cultures and cultural dress
- Absolutely no fake weapons (guns, swords etc.)
Parents please help us in supporting these rules and use discretion as to what is school appropriate based on the guidelines above.
Individual classroom teachers may provide additional information regarding class specific activities in their own email communication to parents and guardians.
This year, our Halloween parade for primary students is back! Children will have an opportunity to visit classes. Thank you to Ms. Carruth for organizing the route. We will be sure to post photos of the event in forthcoming Braemar Bulletin.
Great BC ShakeOut Drill
Great British Columbia ShakeOut at Braemar
This Thursday, people worldwide will practice how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” during Great BC ShakeOut Earthquake Drills. Braemar School’s staff and students will also be participating in the Great BC ShakeOut on Thursday, October 20th in the afternoon. Classroom teachers will be discussing and reviewing the following procedures with their students:
At the first indication of the ground shaking, Drop, Cover, and Hold On (to legs of furniture.)
In hallways, stairwells, gym move to an interior wall, kneel, beside wall, place head on knees, clasp hands behind neck, and cover side of the head with arms.
In the library or music room, move away from shelves, books, and instruments (if possible) and take cover as above.
After shaking has stopped, staff and students count to 60 seconds aloud and wait for further instructions (from the classroom teacher or Mrs. Singh or Ms. Ham)
Please note that this is NOT a school release drill. This is a regular emergency drill that takes place throughout the school year. Please take this opportunity to speak to your child about the upcoming earthquake drill and discuss the following questions if you wish:
What is an earthquake drill and why do we practice?
What would you do in case of an earthquake at home? In the community?
Participating is a great way for your family or organization to be prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes – wherever you live, work, or travel. If you would like to partake in free workshops offered by North Shore Emergency Management please visit www.nsem.info British Columbians can join by registering for the 2022 Great British Columbia ShakeOut at http://www.shakeoutbc.ca/
