As many of you are aware, in August 2015, we launched a brand new school dedicated to young people in care. Given that our students have lived their lives in the complicated and dysfunctional child welfare dependency system and have experienced multiple home and school moves, they are severely academically behind and unprepared to be independent adults. In order to help our students get back on track educationally we believe that we must first create a safe place for our youth to heal. Rooted in the philosophy that “it takes a village,” we believe that in order for our students to learn and achieve academic proficiency needed for the modern world and to become healthy and happy self sustaining adults, we must provide a safe community of teachers and mentors. To that end, last spring we launched a pilot mentoring program with Big Brothers Big Sisters which resulted in 15 successful mentor ('Bigs')/mentee('Littles') matches. This has been an amazing experience for both 'Bigs' and 'Littles' and something we want for ALL of our students
Our President & CEO, Roberta Trombetta, has graciously offered to host this event and we are excited for you to join us as a thought partner, an advocate, and a resource as we launch the program in our brand new school!
We look forward to seeing you there. Be sure to bring a friend or colleague that you believe will be an additional resource to the growth and sustainability of our program!
