NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
22 April 2021

Dear Parents and Staff
Welcome back to the new school Term. I hope you all had a restful break from the school routine and had an opportunity to enjoy the freedoms that we are so very fortunate to experience in Western Australia. This morning I accompanied our School Choir and Year Six students to the City of Belmont RSL Sub-Branch School Anzac Service at Faulkner Park. It was a very moving service and the children in our Choir sang a beautiful rendition of In Flanders Field which I thought was the highlight of the event. Tomorrow morning, we will hold our ANZAC service in the Mother Mary Piazza commencing at 8.55am. During the service we will remember all who have served our country to ensure that we have the opportunity to live in a peaceful world and will lay a wreath as a physical sign of our gratitude.
FINALLY!
After having waited since late last year, the resurfacing of the courts has now been completed and the result is spectacular. These will now serve our school for many years into the future providing a wide range of fun educational opportunities in a colourful, safe environment. I thank everyone for their patience during the renovations.
MOTHERS’ DAY
Our mums are very special to all of us and, while we should pamper them all year round, once a year we make a really special effort to do this. On Wednesday 5 May we will be holding a Mothers’ Day Breakfast for all mums, grandmums and mother figures in the Mother Mary Piazza commencing at 7.30am. This will be followed by Mass celebrated in the Church at 8.45am. A flyer will be sent home with the eldest child from each family tomorrow. Please complete the reply slip and return it to school by Friday 30 April to assist us with catering.
N.B. Vegetarian and gluten free options will be available.
NEW INITIATIVES FOR 4Y.O. KINDY AND PRE-PRIMARY
From the commencement of this school Term:
· Kindergarten children will be able to order lunch and recess from the Canteen.
· Pre-Primary children will be able to order recess items as well as lunch from the Canteen
· Parents of Pre-Primary children will be able to collect them through the drive through pick up after school.
FORWARD NOTICE
Tuesday 8 June (Week 8) will be a Professional Development day for staff and children do not attend school on this day. The Outside School Hours Care centre will operate on this day. Please contact Sharmane Dowse in the school office for enrolments or enquiries.
PARKING
We have been advised by the City of Belmont that there will be changes to parking signage around the school over the next few weeks. Please take note of these so you don’t incur a fine.
SUPPORT
Please take the time to read the article that follows from Tamara Piscopo, one of our school mums. Tamara has a child at our school who has additional needs, a journey that she has travelled for a number of years. Through her involvement with our P&F, Tamara has offered to be a contact for any parents who are new to this journey. Her expertise is based upon what she has learnt along the way, and she is offering assistance so that others may not have to experience the same difficulties that she has. I commend her efforts to support others who feel this would be of assistance.

Each of the children at Notre Dame from PP - Yr 6 created a poppy. There were approximately 400 poppies from Notre Dame all together, which the centre management used in their display, along with poppies made from children at other schools in the City of Belmont.

PRE KINDERGARTEN NEWS
Wow! what an amazing start we have made in Three Year Old Kindy. We were so excited to find out what Kindy had to offer us, new friends, new routines and many others we hadn’t thought of. Like everyone we had to wait an extra week to discover what was planned for us. We were so busy in Term One learning new things.
We learnt new rules of the classroom, (we could not keep all the toys to ourselves we had to share with others).
We learnt new routines, like in the morning we brought into the classroom our hat, our lunch boxes and water bottles.
We learnt to listen to adults that are not our parents, Mrs Millard, Miss J and Mrs Addy.
We learnt to share and take turns with our friends. Apart from all this learning we also had lots of fun.
Outside we liked playing with the bikes, the sandpit, mud kitchen, dolls house and blocks.

Inside we also liked playing. We loved playing in the home corner, with play dough, blocks and completing all the art activities.

We ended the term celebrating Easter. We had so much fun making Easter crafts and lots of Easter activities.
We were so excited to return to school after the holiday and see our friends. We couldn’t believe there is a dinosaur dig in our classroom and dinosaur bones.
After completing our Mother’s presents and cards we are then going to use dinosaurs to help us learn our numbers and complete a lot of fun activities. Did you know the dinosaurs lived even before our grandparents?
We all look forward to continuing our journey in 3 Year Old Kindy. We would like to wish all our Mums a Happy Mother’s Day in a few weeks.
