Wednesday Planning and Professional Development

Here is the schedule for this week's planning and professional development times. We will not be meeting at the beginning of the afternoon because a few of us will be working with Jaimie until later in the afternoon.


1:15 - 3:10: Grade Level Planning


3:10 - 5:15: Report writing conferences with each grade level team- in these meetings, we will look over end of year progress report templates, go over writing comment sections using student work/observation, and discuss what information to include in the comments for each academic section.


3:10 - 3:30: Pine Class

3:30 - 3:50: Maple Class

3:50 - 4:10: Ginkgo Class

4:10 - 4:30: Elm Class

4:30 - 4:50: Oak Class

4:50 - 5:10: Beech Class

Staff Happy Hour on May 19th!

Come on out to Habana Outpost from 5 PM - 7 PM on Thursday, May 19th for drinks, corn, and cuban sandwiches in the company of your co-workers! Significant others/kids welcome. Hope to see many of you there!

Talent Show Act-Viewing Times

The talent show committee will be taking children who signed up to perform in the talent show to view their acts on Tuesday and Thursday. Here are the hours in which they will take students from each class:


Tuesday, May 17th:

  • 9:30 - 10:30: Oak class
  • 11:15 - 12:15: Beech class
  • 2:30 - 3:30: Elm class


Thursday, May 19th:

  • 9:30 - 10:30: Maple class
  • 11:15 - 12:15: Ginkgo class
  • 2:30 - 3:30: Pine class

Progress Report Calendar

This week, we'll be going over progress report writing with each teaching team and look at report templates and scheduling. So you can look over it beforehand, here are the dates for progress report writing for end of year reports:


Wednesday, May 18th:

Michelle and Brooke meet with each teaching team and begin to write exemplar reports together with each teaching team


Wednesday, May 25th:

1.5 hours of report writing time given in Wednesday planning and PD


  • Content blurbs and 2 exemplar reports due


Wednesday, June 1st:

1.5 hours of report writing time given in Wednesday planning and PD


Thursday, June 2nd:

Report writing half day- Michelle and Brooke available at school for consultation and collaborative progress report writing


Friday, June 3rd:

Report writing half day- Michelle and Brooke available at school for consultation and collaborative progress report writing


  • 6 progress reports due from each teacher by the end of the day


Monday, June 6th:


  • Conference sign-ups sent to families with more than one child at Compass/other special considerations


Wednesday, June 8th:

1.5 hours of report writing time given in Wednesday planning and PD


  • First drafts of reports are due
  • Conference sign-ups are distributed to all families


Wednesday, June 15th: Final Revisions to reports are due


Friday, June 17th: Reports are printed

Materials for the Arts, New York’s premiere reuse facility, and Long Island City Arts Open, Queens’ largest art festival, have teamed up to celebrate the works of reuse artists from one of the largest and most diverse arts communities in NYC. MFTA works to spread the realization that art materials are everywhere and that every community has the raw reuseable ingredients needed to create works of art. Artists in the show include Jairo Toro, Laura Bell, Beth Williams Garrett, Jean Foos and Jennifer Merdjan. This collaboration displays a brilliant range of art made from found materials and highlights the artist community in the neighborhood MFTA calls home.
