AWANA Store Wednesday, September 30th!!!

Our Sparks and T&T members have been doing an AWESOME job memorizing Bible verses, books of the Bible, and completing multi-question sections in their books! It's time to REWARD them for the GREAT JOB that they're doing! It's AWANA STORE NIGHT this Wednesday! Kids can cash in their AWANA bucks for prizes at the AWANA Store or keep on saving to score a bigger prize down the road. Hope you can make it this week!!!

Last Week's Lesson...

Pastor David Ford taught from Joshua 24: 14-16. "Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,...But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Ask your kids about today's "gods" (entertainment...movies, video games, t.v., money, success, sports) versus the One True God! Be sure to ask your kids why Pastor David dipped his cold popsicle into his hot coffee! (Hint: be hot or cold...not lukewarm!)

This Week's Lesson...

This week will be taught from 1 Corinthians 9:24-27. We want our Sparks and T&Ters to know that the prizes that they earn at the AWANA store are just a small reward compared to "...a crown that will last forever."

A Note From Our Secretary....

So, if you're new to Sparks club, you might be asking yourself, "What are these jewels that are coming home and what do I do with them." The first award that Sparks earn after they earn their patch is a red jewel. The Sparks will earn red and green jewels to go along with corresponding units in their handbooks. The jewels go inside of the wings (green wings for HangGlider, blue for WingRunner, red for SkyStormer) as shown in the diagram above. There are also blue attendance jewels that Sparks can earn by missing no more than one club night per quarter. Blue jewels will be awarded on 10/21/15, 1/27/16, 3/23/16, and 5/18/16. If your child has a jewel and has not received his wings, please see me at the desk after club this Wednesday. -Amanda Jeffcoat

AWANA "Committed to the Journey" Video

The website is a great resource of videos and articles to encourage you as a parent in your role to, "Train up a child in the way he should go..." (Proverbs 22:6a). In choosing to have your child in AWANA on Wednesday nights, we know that you are choosing to make your child's spiritual growth a priority. This is a commitment that will affect their life for eternity as they hide God's Word in their hearts letting it shape their lives and, one day in the not so distant future, the lives of their children, grandchildren, and so on! Please watch the video below to be encouraged that you made an excellent decision in committing to bringing your child to AWANA on Wednesday nights this year!

2015-16 AWANA Parent Information

We are so excited that you have chosen to have your child participate in AWANA this year at Northside! AWANA is a worldwide ministry that has been serving churches and communities for over 60 years. It’s vision long ago was based off of a question: “Lord, what can we do to reach the children of our community with Your message of grace?” AWANA is local and it is personal. We want this to be an outreach that your children will be excited to invite their friends to! Our leaders are volunteers; “...ordinary people touched by God with a special love for children.” Please pray for your leaders and get to know them. We pray that they will become a special part of your child’s life in the coming year.

Here are a few important items to start the year:

AWANA begins at 6:00 and ends at 7:50

Please enter through the main Kid’s Worship doors each evening up until 6:00. After 6:00, please use the “back door” entrance. Dismissal will begin promptly at 7:50 at the back door. You are welcome, however, to come into the Kid’s Worship Room at 7:35, using the back door entrance, if you would like to see your child receive their awards and hear reminders for the next week’s club. We ask that you stay behind the barriers during this time for safety and order. At the end of club, we will have the children find their parents and proceed to the front exit doors where your tags can be matched for a safe exit.

AWANA Uniform

Please make sure that your child has their proper uniform on each week. This includes their:

1. AWANA t-shirt

2. Running shoes (required for participation in Game Time)

3. Bible

4. AWANA book

AWANA Point System

Children receive points for each of the items above as well as points for Sunday school and church attendance. They also earn points during Book Time when they “pass sections” (say their verses by memory.) Lastly, they earn points during Game Time. All of these points will come together for a grand total. The team with the highest total points is the winner for the night, and that team will receive a prize. This form of healthy competition spurs children on to come prepared and to fully participate in all of the activities of the evening.

Bible Verses

If your child is new to AWANA, they will go through entry booklets: Flight 3:16 (Sparks) and Start Zone (T&T.) In addition to completing these booklets, they must come to AWANA twice in order to become a full-fledged member. They are then presented with their new AWANA handbook and can begin studying verses at home to prepare for club. (Handbooks must be paid for in advance.) The AWANA curriculum is self-paced and needs to be completed in order with the exception of the “bring a friend” and “missionary” sections. We want your child to develop an enjoyment for learning the Bible and it’s truths. Please encourage your child to study their verses and help them to understand the meaning of the verse as well. If your child is prepared to say his verse and he has said it to you, please place your initials in his handbook beside the verse. Additionally, Sparks books come with an audio CD in the back of the book. This is a great study tool for your child as they can listen to the CD while doing a puzzle or other quiet activity at home. If your child memorizes verses more easily when they are set to music, the AWANA store online has music CDs that correspond with each book. They can be purchased for @ $10. The AWANA website is It is a wonderful resource if you would like to learn more about AWANA clubs.

The safety of your child is of utmost importance to us. Always print a security tag at one of the kiosks downstairs before bringing your child upstairs, and place the sticker on the front of your child’s shirt. Restrooms upstairs are strictly for children. Adults must use the downstairs bathrooms. It is encouraged that one parent remain on the Northside campus while their child is in AWANA in case a situation arises where the parent is needed. If you leave campus, please make sure that we have your cell phone numbers on file in case of an emergency.

We are so excited to begin working with your children this year, along with our amazing team of leaders, and we are here to answer any questions that you may have along the way.

Blessings to you,

Daniel and Michelle Crowson
