Harriet tubman by Armando barbosa

Early Life

Harriet Tubman was born to enslaved parents on 1820.She was originally named araminta Harriet Ross, but was also nicknamed minty.Mint's life was always full of hardships. The son of the owners,Edward sold three of her sisters to distant plantations, further fracturing her family.severe punishment was a daily thing for Tubman and her family. The violence she endured in her early life was harsh, and caused the physical permanent injuries she carried for the rest of her life.

It is not known about her education, but most likely she didn’t really go to school or even had a good one, considering the fact that not many slaves had education at those times, much less the ability to read,as it was expensive and was not allowed, for if the owner found any form of learning connected to the slave, the would most likely get lashed.

Again, Tubman's family was a family of 11,2 parents and 9 children.

Her family was split though, due to the owner's son,Edward, selling three of Tubman's sisters. When a trader from Georgia approached Harriet “Rit” Green(mother),about buying Rit’s youngest son, Moses, Rit successfully resisted the further fracturing of her family.

When Tubman escaped the grasps of slavery, she decided to free slaves. She succsesfully freed many. Over time, she was able to guide her parents, several siblings and about 60 others to freedom.
