Newtown NEWS
Newtown Elementary School
Hello Newtown Families,
WOW! It was wonderful to have students back in the building this week and to see students learning and having fun! Students and staff did a great job of following our outlined safety procedures to take care of everyone involved.
Next week will be our first full week with both cohorts. Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy the predicted great weather, and we look forward to seeing students back again next week.

Car Line Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Arrival:
Morning drop-off has run quite smoothly over the past three days and we are appreciative of families for their cooperation. Please remember that students cannot be dropped off prior to 8:50am and please make sure a staff member is present when allowing students to exit the vehicle. Continue to pull as far forward as possible, up to the white drop-off line painted in the lot, to allow for us to have the maximum number of students being dropped off at any one time occur and to allow us to try and keep Wrights Rd. as clear as possible.
Dismissal:
We want to thank everyone staff, students, and parents alike for your patience and understanding as we navigate car-rider dismissal. We began both cohorts using a system of dismissing children from the gym, where they were seated and distanced. After reassessing, we are going to alter this method to have students stay in their homeroom classroom, be called over the loud speaker by family, and to proceed to the car-rider line once called. This will eliminate students congregating together, provide more social distancing, and all-in-all be more safe for everyone. We understand that the amount of time dismissal sometimes takes can be frustrating, but please know we are putting safety at the forefront which is the reason for the change. We will do our best to move the process along and get everyone safely out of the building as quickly as possible. In addition, we will continue to reassess and make changes as needed to make the process run more smoothly, which will be communicated to families as we move forward. For cars arriving to pick-up, please begin lining up at the white line painted in the lot. Once we reach the back row, please begin lining up using two lines (pictured below) to allow for us to move as much traffic off Wrights Rd. as possible. Once the line begins moving, please continue to pull forward, unless directed otherwise by staff. Whenever possible, parents should stay in the vehicle and allow staff members to assist students. This will help the line to move more quickly and keep everyone safe.
Please have placards clearly displayed in the front car window. This will allow us to communicate family names inside and move the process along as quickly as possible. Thank you.
