PRAYER FOR A NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Loving God, our creator, our saviour, our companion,
bless this journey of a new school year.
We welcome those who are new to this community,
and ask that you strengthen them to share the gifts they have been given.
Engage our hearts as our students return to school,
and may you help them to have open hearts and minds eager to learn.
We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus. Amen
Dear Parents and Community Members,
What a great start to the new school year! Thank you for preparing your students so well for the first day. There were lots of smiles on arrival and a buzz of excitement as people were catching up on holiday news. Swimming lessons for Years 2-6 went very smoothly, and the water was a welcome reprieve from the heat. Our Kindergarten students started today in their new rooms. Thank you for welcoming our new staff and new families.
The newsletter last week had lots of important information, including dates and reminders. Please refer back if you need to check on anything.
Parent Information Evening
Our beginning of the school year Parent Information Evening is next week, Tuesday 6th February.
The schedule for the evening:
5:00pm – PP-Year 2 classes presenting their class information in their classrooms.
5:45pm - All staff and parents in the Hall.
6:00pm - Year 3-6 classes presenting their class information in their classrooms.
We understand that parents may have children in different year levels and may not be able to attend all sessions. Information will be sent to parents after the meetings.
Cyber Safety Parent Information Session
Nola Marino will be presenting an informative session for parents on Monday 19 February at 6.00pm in the Hall. Please make an effort to come along. Cyber Safety is such an important aspect of parenting and all adults need to ensure they are informed so they are aware of how to protect their children when they are online.
Ash Wednesday Mass
Parents are welcome to join us for Mass on Ash Wednesday 14 February at 11.00am in the school hall. Students from Years 3-6 will be attending as we mark the beginning of the Church season of Lent.
Mobile Phones or other Electronic Devices
If your child has a mobile phone, please remind them that these are to remain in their bags for safekeeping during the school day. Smart watches can get damaged during the course of the school day, and as expensive items, are best left at home. Communication between parents and students during the school day is through the school office. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Welcome to our New Teachers!
My name is Natalie Matthews, and I have recently moved to Busselton from Perth. I have been teaching for 3 years in Year 1 at St Benedict’s Primary School and have loved starting in Year 2 this year!
I am an avid hockey player, and enjoy reading on the weekends, so any book recommendations are welcome.
I am looking forward to getting to know the OLC school and wider community over the rest of the year, and please feel free to come and say hello!
Natalie
My name is Millie Charlton and I am teaching Year 3 at OLC this year. I have recently made the move from Pemberton to Dunsborough and this is my first year teaching at this wonderful school! In Pemberton I have had the pleasure of teaching students in PP to Year 4.
I grew up in a small country town called Tammin and have one very active dog. I love playing netball and hockey and drawing.
I feel so lucky to join this beautiful school community and I look forward to meeting everyone throughout the year.
Millie
My name is Grace Anderson. I was born and grew up in Bunbury in the Southwest. After completing high school, I moved to Perth to complete my Early Childhood Education degree at Notre Dame University in Fremantle. After completing my degree, I moved to Broome to complete my first years of teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching Year Two’s in the Kimberly. Whilst in the Kimberly, I also had an opportunity to do remote teaching across a few community schools which was the amazing experience. When I moved down to Busselton I commenced a short-term contract at St Mary Mackillop College in Year One for the remainder of 2023.
I am thoroughly looking forward to being a part of the OLC community and teaching Pre-Primary. I have been so warmly welcomed already and cannot wait for an amazing 2024!

Canteen Volunteer Link
It is vital that we have volunteers to enable our canteen to be operational.
This is particularly important with the addition of extra canteen days this year. Please consider getting involved and helping out. Your children will love it when they see you in the canteen. Please click on the link to volunteer for this term volunteersignup.org/EMWBE
Canteen will commence in Monday 12th February. It will be open on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays this year. Ordering is done through quickcliq, which can be accessed via https://ladyofcape.wa.edu.au/canteen/
Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct guides the behaviour of all members of the school community. Please familiarise yourself with the Code of Conduct. You can access the document on our website, or by clicking on the link below:
Swimming Lessons

We hope that you are enjoying getting back into the swing of the school routine, after a beautiful summer. The heat this week has made it challenging for the students, who have been amazing. Working together as a team, this year is going to be a great one for us all!
Please read the updated Parent Information booklet.
Have a wonderful week.
May God bless you.

Running Club Y3 - Y6
As we have not received funding for Sporting Schools (outside school hours), this program will not run in term one. However, Mrs Sinclair has kindly offered to continue to take the running club at 8am on Wednesday mornings. This is available to Years 3 - 6. Meet outside Mrs Sinclair's office with running shoes. There is no need to register for this program.
Transperth Bus App
Did you know there is a Transperth Bus App?
In the tab 'Routes' you can search for your school bus number.
When you enter a time, and find your school bus in the list, that it shows a route map and a schedule.

Feel free to share the flyer with any families with neurodiverse children, we'd love to provide them with a free, safe and inclusive surfing event!
