STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students of the Week
STUDENTS: Tania Watts Francisco and Torry Brock Hicks
NOMINATED By: Mrs. Klein
Last week I took a terrible fall outside while walking to my car. Tania Watts Francisco and Torry Brock Hicks happened to be outside and witnessed it. They were my two angels that day. Without hesitation they immediately ran to me, picking up my belongings and assisting me off the ground. Torry ran and got the nurses and brought them to my aid. He and Tania went back to the nurses office and waited until I arrived to make sure I was OK. They again checked back in the next day to see how I was doing. Their actions are to be commended. Two examples of what is right in the world! I give so many thanks to them!

MOLE DAY
Mole Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated among chemists, chemistry students, and chemistry enthusiasts on October 23, between 6:02 a.m. and 6:02 p.m. Mole Day falls during American Chemical Society (ACS) National Chemistry week from October 20-26. Chemistry teachers celebrated by having their students get creative through Mole Day projects. MRS. Herman's classes made baked goods, moles, and posters to highlight moles, while Mr. Henshaw's classes created a periodic table out of cupcakes.
Have mole problems? Call Avogadro at 6.02x10^23
Not to be outdone...
Has studying polymers ever been so fun? This week in MR. Herman’s Chemistry lab students created slime to show how polymer chains that are normally liquid can cross link with other polymers and form a three dimensional matrix that we see as the slime.
MY NAME MY STORY CHANGEMAKERS DAYS
“My Name My Story” is a national organization that was developed in 2011 with the notion that individuals can change the world around them by inspiring empathy, innovation and teamwork within small groups to develop into “changemakers”—those who will drive change. When young people have the opportunity to learn how to share their own story and listen closely to others, they will gain empathy. Then naturally, empathic young people will be inclined to actively seek out ways to positively change the community around them. We held 2 Changemaker Days this past week--one for High School students and one for Middle School students. The Changemaker Days were full school days filled with team building activities, movement, music and small group discussions on topics such as mental health stigma, social barriers, ethnic division, creating inclusion and non-judgment, and steps for unifying a community. 60 upperclassmen student leaders for both of these days were identified by high school staff members; 100 student participants for the High School Changemaker Day were identified by staff members here as well.

WEEKLY GAME/SCORE REPORT
Girls Tennis
Girls Varsity Soccer
EHT played Ocean City in the first round of the illustrious SJSCA tournament. After suffering a rough loss a week before at the feet of Ocean City, the Lady Eagles bounced back with a spirited performance against the Red Raiders. In what was a very physical first half, EHT defenders led by juniors Meghan Maul, Casey Biglan, and Kristen Semet frustrated the OC attackers, limiting both their time and space on the ball. After thirty nine minutes of even play, OC found the back of the net after a player snuck in behind the defense to make the score 1-0 right before halftime. The girls, however, were not discouraged. Even after giving up a second goal on a questionable non-offsides call, EHT's Niki Danz took a well guided ball from Madison Morgan in behind the OC defenders and smoothly placed it in the back of the net to pull the Eagles to within one again. With about twenty minutes remaining, Kyleigh Oberman hit the top of a crossbar on a shot from a direct kick that would have easily tied the game at two. Unfortunately OC netted a third and deadly goal with just under ten minutes left to seal the win and advance in the tournament. It was a courageous effort by our EHT girls. Ocean City would advance all the way to the semi-finals and lose to Rancocas Valley (who EHT beat earlier in the season 2-0) on penalty kicks.
EHT lost against a 12-3-0 Pinelands team on Monday 3-2. In what was a slightly emotional letdown game after the battle with Ocean City, EHT fell down 3-0 in the first half. Rallying around their teammates, EHT fought back scoring two goals off of Niki Danz's foot late in the second half to bring the game within striking distance. In what ended up being a game against the clock, EHT was unable to put together a third goal to send the game into extra time.
EHT righted the ship in Atlantic City with a 7-0 win on Wednesday to move to 11-6-0 on the season. Gabby Germann, Adeline Umplett, and Lauren Ebner all netted a goal while junior Niki Danz put four goals in the back of the net, breaking the EHTHS single season goal record previously set by Katie Lindacher (class of 2010). Her final goal, which came with six minutes remaining in the game, is her twenty-seventh on the season. Congratulations, Niki! The shutout which was EHT tenth on the season, continues to extend Grace Baumgartel's single season school record as well.
Up next, Millville on Friday 10/25. A win will make EHT the CAL American Conference Co-champions.
Varsity Field Hockey
Field hockey won it's first round playoff game against Vineland 5-0. Jette Trumbauer had 2 goals, Cheyenne Avellino had 2 goals, and Alexis Gray had one goal.
Field hockey lost a tough second round game to Southern Regional 2-0. Rebecca Macchia was phenomenal in cage and we were unable to capitalize on several scoring chances.
Varsity Football
EHT Football traveled to Cherry Hill East High School for an afternoon game last Saturday, defeating the Cougars by a score of 31-0. Freshman QB Christian Rando and RB Avery McKim led the offense, while Michael Chew provided crushing blocks all game. Freshman kicker Joey Marten converted his first career FG attempt. Senior Yasir Triniwell had a performance to remember, scoring on a 93-yard interception return for a TD and a 74-yard blocked FG return for a TD. Yasir's efforts led to him receiving the Jersey Sports Zone SJ Week 6 Game Ball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym90f2BKrK4
The Eagles will take on the Bridgeton Bulldogs this Friday, 10/25, with a 6:00 PM kickoff in Bridgeton.
Boys and Girls Cross Country
The boys were led by junior Nico Valdivieso who finished 9th overall. Junior Aidan Winkler placed 15th overall.
The next race will be the Sectional Championships which will be held on Saturday 11/9
Boys Soccer
On Friday, October 18th, the Braves traversed the wild frontier of Atlantic County to a familiar haunt of Egg Harbor Township High School. Once a heated rivalry, the jets have cooled in recent history with the Braves being moved out of the division, but like the Hatfields and McCoy’s, old feuds just never seem to die. The game started with the Braves swarming and ready to chop down any offensive threat the Eagles threw at them, and for a good twenty minutes, that game plan seemed to work...that is until EJ Martin had enough. Calling for the old “wink and a nod” play, BooRock Cimen feigned an injury, causing the ref to stop time and allow a trainer to come on the field. Not a move often used in the gentlemen’s game, but dire times call for dire actions. EJ rounded up the troops and even though no coaches were in the vicinity, the passion and fury could be heard from EJ’s hushed tones. As the ref blew the whistle and BooRock was carried off the field, EJ pointed to young Nate Biersbach and nodded. And like a possessed Frank Dux in the movie Bloodsport, Nate Biersbach began to wipe away the competition in his own Kumite. Within seconds, Nate received the pass and created space towards the net, and found his mentor EJ waiting, like a ball-peen hammer ready to strike. EJ connected and though the goalkeeper made a dive, it was out of the way of EJ’s monumental force. As EJ celebrated and clapped up Nate, with a blank stare and no emotion, Nate simply said, “We are not done.” Ten minutes later, Nate fed EJ another pass like a mother feeding her child saying, “open up for choochoo!” And like a runaway train, that ball blasted past the defense of the Braves. The flood gates had opened, and BooRock decided it was his turn to find glory with a softly weighted pass from Ahmad that was the antithesis of the power contained in his right leg. Ahmad like what he saw and soon found himself at the receipt of the still on fire Nate Biersbach’s pass that also rattled the back of the old onion bag. To cap off his man of the match performance, Nate Biersbach sealed the fate of the cowering Braves by taking a pass off of Jayden Guy and weaving his way past six of the Absegami players, one ball boy, two coaches, and the pride of the Braves, into the back of the net. The sellout crowd erupted in what was to be one of the most lopsided victories the Eagles had ever had in this ancient rivalry.
On Saturday, the Eagles defeated the Friends of Moorestown 3-1 in their first Coaches Tournament victory since 2011. EJ Martin had two and Ahmad Brock had one for the victory.
