We see death has a reaction from both Gilgamesh and Odysseus.
Death is inevitable
Something that angered Gilgamesh is that death was inevitable. Gilgamesh was upset that only immortals live forever.

Even when you go through battles, and it appears that death will strike the one person you believed to always be there for you. In the case of Odysseus, his mother took her own life out of grief. It comes as a surprise to Odysseus when he arrives in Hades.
