5 Quick Facts

Diane Fingers-English

1. I have three adult children: Nichole, Meaghan and Cody (can’t believe Cody is about to be 22.) I also have one g-baby, Emma, who is almost 8.

2. Anyone who knows me, knows I keep pretty busy, but when I have any down time, I like to read (duh:)), crochet, sew, and try new crafts, anything but knitting. My mom deemed me unsafe with knitting needles. It’s not a pretty sight.

3. When I was young, I tried to get over my fear of heights by learning how to rappel. Although I really enjoyed the sport, I’m still fiercely afraid of heights.

4. I enjoy home projects. If it needs to be done and I can figure it out, I want to do it myself. I love working with tools and making or repairing things myself. Youtube, Pinterest, Home Depot and occasionally Hobby Lobby, my faves.

5. My one claim to fame, I’m published in a book, The Call of Memory. My chapter is “Living With Loss.” This text is used at high schools and universities around the world.

I nominate Ben Ra.

Test Training

Acheivement

Tools for your Toolbox:

The 3 sentence wrap-up:

By using the 3 sentence wrap-up, you can eliminate the tendency to add every peripheral item discussed. Students have to be selective, determine what is most important, and then succinctly sum it up. Having to summarize something lengthy in 3 sentences or less can be a bit of a challenge. But it requires that students sift out what is important and sum up their understandings in a concise way.

How it works:

1. At the end of your presentation, have students summarize it in 3 sentences or less.

2. Have small groups get together to share and refine their summaries.

How to ensure higher-order thinking:

Ask students to get together in small groups and compare their sentences and see if they can pare the summary down to even fewer sentences.

Attendance

The FHN Admin Team is very appreciative of the efforts of our staff this year in helping to raise awareness about the importance of good attendance, and to help to improve our overall attendance rates. I wanted to take a moment to share some data with you that highlights our gains in this area:

2014-2015

Percent of students missing 10%-19.9% of school= 8.8%

Percent of students missing 20% or more= 5.3%

2015-2016 (So far)

Percent of students missing 10%-19.9%= 6.3%

Percent of students missing 20% or more= 2.9%

Again, thank you for the part you’ve played in making this happen. FHN is a great place to work because clearly we have people who care.
