'Tis the Season to SIMPLIFY!
Twin Oaks Families:
Once Thanksgiving weekend passes, I feel as if the entire world shifts on its axis to greet the holiday season! Suddenly, we are in overdrive . . . preparing for family gatherings, gift giving, vacation time, and all the trappings that go along with our annual traditions. Although I welcome the joys that come along with the season, it can feel a quite stressful and overwhelming. How do we manage all the moving parts, while still maintaining our sanity, and actually enjoying ourselves? SIMPLIFY. I found this useful list on Zen Habits' website (for the full article, click on the link below my message):
How to Simplify the Holidays
- Remember what's essential. ...
- Limit shopping as much as possible. ...
- Talk to your family about alternatives. ...
- Make a list of the traditions you love, and that you don't love. ...
- Start to let go of the non-essential. ...
- Build a simple holiday around what matters to you...
In School This Week: Classroom lessons this week will focus on the "size of the problem." For Kinder-2nd grade we will read a story about a birthday party that goes off the rails, and how we need to match our reaction to the size of the problem. Is it a small, easily solvable issue, a medium one that may require a bit of help, or a BIG problem requiring adult intervention? For the upper grades, our lesson objective will be to get students to think about what tools they already have in their tool kit to solve friendship, recess and classroom conflicts, without always relying on adults to fix the problem. We will review several school setting scenarios, and brainstorm solutions. My goal is to equip students with the skills and confidence they need to solve their own problems.
