Greetings Willink Families!
Although it was only four days, there was a lot going on at Willink this week. The PTSA Listening Post kicked off the week with some fun and challenging games for students during lunches. Many students worked to complete these challenges throughout the day in pursuit of the chance to win one of several gift cards being raffled off. Thank you Listening Post!
We also had a chance on Wednesday to celebrate our outstanding bus drivers as Mrs. King-Montz and our PBIS committee welcomed the team to the library. "Donuts with Drivers" was highlighted by performances of Only Men Aloud and Here Comes Treble, vocal music groups run by Ms. Thompson and Mrs. Polino. Thank you to these students and teachers and to our wonderful drivers who bring our students safely too and from school each day.
Speaking of music, we are also privileged to be hosting Solofest this weekend. Hundreds of students from six counties will be participating in vocal and instrumental categories. Participants work with adjudicators who will provide feedback on their performance with a chance for our older students to qualify for state-level opportunities. The event kicked off Friday night and will continue into the afternoon on Saturday and it is one more example of how proud we are of music and the arts as part of our schools and community.
One of my personal favorites from the week was watching our Green 6 students dissect worms in Mr. Kokx’s science class. The students were eager to show Mr. Gumina and myself the various parts of worm anatomy and it brought me right back to my own days (long ago) in biology class.
As we look ahead to next week, we are excited to be hosting our Open House event for next year’s 6th grade students. We look forward to meeting our current 5th grade students and their families just as we prepare to wish our 8th graders well in high school in just a few weeks.
And finally, please join me in welcoming the additions of Mr. Jason Simoni and Ms. Ashley Socola who will be joining our Willink administrative team starting July 1st. Mr. Simoni will be the new assistant principal in the Green House, replacing Mr. McBride who will be reuniting with some former Willink students as he takes on an assistant principal position at Thomas High School next year. Ms. Socola will be coming on as our new assistant principal in the Blue House, replacing Mrs. McCabe who will be finishing the year as our interim AP in that house.
Looking forward to an exciting spring!
Take care,
Brian Powers
