Hawaii and Coding
This week in Room 105
Learning about Hawaii
Since I had the opportunity to do a lot of learning about Hawaii over my Thanksgiving break, the students in my class learned about my travels upon my return Thursday. They researched and reported to the class about Waikiki, The Polynesian Cultural Center, The Dole Plantation, Diamond Head, The Secret Island, and Pali Lookout. After they shared out what they discovered, I shared some of my pictures of those places, read them an ABCs of Hawaii book and let them try some Macadamia nuts from the island of Oahu. While researching and illustrating their favorite parts, we also listened to Mele Kalikimaka - the Hawaiian Christmas song.

CODING
Today students took part in the schoolwide Hour of Code project. Students in our class practiced moving a main character from one spot to another and navigating him through a path using simple directions. The Kodable app on our iPads helped us better understand the basics of coding.
