Condit Elementary Weekly Bulletin
3/12/18
Message from Dr. Malally
Hello!
Thank you to Mr. Glaspy, Mr. Campuzano & the CHS Football Players, and the handful of parent volunteers we had at our Condit Track Meet last Friday morning. Our K - 3rd grade students had fun running through the different events, and our 4th - 6th graders put in their best efforts running the 60 yd. dash, 100 yd. dash and 300. We also had many students participating in the broad jump and the softball throw. Mr. Glaspy will be gathering all of the data that we will publish in the next week or so, for participation in the Vista del Valle District Track Meet on Friday, April 20th.
Our next lockdown drill will take place this Tuesday, March 13th. The Condit Staff reviewed our emergency procedures last week, and have been communicating with our students, the steps we will all take during a lockdown. There is information below in the bulletin that you can reference regarding our lockdown procedures below. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Please contact me at cmalally@cusd.claremont.edu if you are an interested parent wanting to serve on Condit's School Site Council for the next two school years. I will need a short blurb about yourself that shares about yourself and why you would like to serve on the School Site Council. Voting will take place on the evening of Open House which is Wednesday, March 28th. School Site Council meeting times are mutually agreed upon with the Council at the May meeting of the preceding school year. The School Site Council meets a minimum of six times a year, usually on a Wednesday.
Lastly, check out the flyer below about the California 2018 Scholar Dollars Grant Program, ScholarShare 529. Condit has applied for the grant to assist with our Library Improvement project and teacher laptop replacement. Everyone can vote once per day. Please share the information on Facebook/Instagram with all of your friends and encourage them to vote for Condit. It is a $20,000 grant, and would help the Condit Library a lot. Thank you for supporting our school!
Have a WONDERFUL week!
Condit Library Improvements
Condit's Library is need of some LOVE! While Mrs. Christenson does an EXCELLENT job rotating titles on and off the bookshelves, being a resource to students, and running the AR Program (to name just a few things she does!); the library itself is in need of a face-lift. It has been at least 10 years since Condit's library has received new paint, bookshelves, furniture, and other much needed materials. Condit PFA is looking for families who are interested in bringing the library space alive with new paint, displays, bookshelves, furniture, and lighting. Are you a welder? An interior designer? A painter? A carpenter? Do you sew? Or love to craft? Do you know someone who does? We need your help! Our goal is to have a new and improved library ready to open at the start of the 2018-19 school year, but need to get started now. Please contact Valarie Jimenez 626-374-8130 vjimenez814@gmail.com or Dr. Malally cmalally@cusd.claremont.edu if you would like to help with this project. THANK YOU!!
PFA News
Our next PFA meeting is next Monday, March 19th @ 8:30 AM in Condit's MPR. We look forward to seeing you there!
Mrs. Nelson's Book Fair begins today, during the week of Parent-Teacher Conferences, March 12-16. The Book Fair is loved by all and an opportunity for Condit's Library to receive new books for all students to enjoy. Your help is needed to make this Book Fair super successful! If you have a couple of hours you can donate during the week of March 12-16, please sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4AA5AB2DA5F94-mrs

MCTEACHER NIGHT UPDATE
Dear Condit families, friends and teachers, THANK YOU!
Again, this year's McTeacher Night was a HUGE success! Our wonderful McTeachers served up so much Fun in their "blinged out" team shirts, and were completely adorable. It was great to see you all there, thank you! Also, a special THANK YOU to McDonald's and My Gym, La Verne. The face painting and jungle gym was AWESOME!
Because of your participation, Condit raised $1,014. Again, THANK YOU. Your continued support of Condit's Family Fun Nights has raised the school over $6,474. These fundraisers make it possible for our PFA to donate approximately $14,000 each year to our school for activities, equipment and supplies that directly benefit each of our children. We are looking forward to sharing another evening with you on May 16th at our annual "Scoop Night" at Bert & Rocky's in the Village.
If you are interested in helping Condit's PFA coordinate these and other events, please stop by the office and leave your contact information. We would LOVE to have YOU join the team that is working hard for our students.
Sincerely,
Nubia Villalobos
Family Fun Night Chairperson
School Lockdown on Tuesday, March 13th
On Tuesday, March 13th, Condit will hold an in-classroom lockdown. Officer Ganino from the Claremont Police Department and Dr. Malally will be walking the campus during the lockdown. They will be checking for locked doors, and for any issues that need to be addressed for future lockdowns.
All of the teachers have communicated with their students about the lockdown. Students in the classrooms will follow the directions of their teacher during the lockdown. They will:
1. Turn off lights.
2. Silence cell phones.
3. Move all students and staff away from windows and stay low (below window line).
4. Look for a safe corner or area in the room.
5. Staff has been instructed to not open their doors until the "all clear" has been issued.
If the students are outdoors, or in the hallways, they have been instructed to:
1. Move immediately to the nearest classroom or building.
2. Follow procedures above if in a classroom or building.
THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR TRACK MEET VOLUNTEERS! WE COULDNT' HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!
What is School Site Council?
The School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees and students (at the high school level) who work with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the site council are generally elected by their peers. For example, parents elect the parent representatives and teachers elect teachers.
Over the course of a year, a typical council might consider the goals of the school or district and then work with the principal to evaluate the school’s progress toward those goals. In this evaluation, the council might consider school test scores, attendance and discipline records, parent surveys and input from students.
