What are the Levels of Learning in Technology?
Brad the Beginner
- Basic-level learners are described as "beginners" because they are at the beginning stages of learning how to use technology. You're a beginner if you have an interest in technology and are actively seeking how to improve your skills. You can rely on a general knowledge base and try to solve problems intuitively. You can be quite creative.
- Most comfortable using search engines, Word Processing, and spreadsheet programs.
Ava the Advanced
- Intermediate-level learners have just enough technology knowledge to be in between the basic and expert levels of technology usage. They often exhibit variable performance in problem solving, technology users at this level can function without much assistance because there is enough knowledge base to apply beyond the basic/beginner level.
- You move from beginner to advanced when you can utilize technology's more advanced features to create non-trivial useful applications in optimal ways using your chosen device(s).
- Most comfortable using browser basics, word processing, presentation formats, web-based programs, and use video/image basics.
Emma the Expert
- Technology experts have abundant long-term memory in well-practiced tools and perform the best in problem solving. They have achieved the "competent" status. They are confident in their abilities and less likely to call on others to assist them for even the most difficult tasks.
- You know how to use most if not all of the latest technology programs and devices.
- You can consistently answer questions others have about technology usage that can not easily be found through search engines.
- Most comfortable using web-based programs, the latest presentation formats/programs, create websites, webinars, podcasts, etc.
When you increase your technology knowledge base, your students' technology knowledge base increases.
