Teacher Feature - Mrs. Olson
Mrs. Olson has been a teacher here at McKinley for 24 years. Even though she has been teaching all that time, she models courage and tenacity for our students through her willingness and enthusiasm to try something new. She recently got a puppy named Cali that she is training to be a well mannered dog, but she says they have a long way to go! She is also training her to ride on her kayak, without tipping them over into the water. When she is at home she loves to do projects around the house like painting and planting flowers. She also loves to watch action movies and read books. Her favorite food is cheeseburgers with french fries from the Ice Burgie.
This is Mrs. Olson's family. Kyle on the left is in Physical Therapy school and his girlfriend is in nursing school. Her older son is on the right with his wife and they are both teachers. Her husband in the back is a physical therapist. They love to go camping and kayaking together.
Character Trait of the Month
Courage: to choose what is good, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary.
This month we’re talking about the virtue of Courage – to help our children be courageous and learn to conquer things that frighten or scare them. Children need reassurance that fear is one of our feelings and to help them understand that it’s okay to feel afraid. Courage isn’t fearlessness, but instead our ability to choose the right thing even when we are scared!
