Updates, Information, and Ideas for DCSC Staff
August 30, 2019
In order to be respectful of everyone's time, I have broken the newsletter down into information that staff "Have To Know" and information that is "Nice to Know." In addition, I have tried to break things down further by grade level or subject area. Please ensure you read and/or respond to anything in the "Have To Know" section that applies to a grade level or subject area you teach.
If you find any ideas, websites, books, etc. that you think are worth sharing out, please send them my way and I am happy to include them!

Even if you don't work with students in grades 3-8, all staff are bound to get a question about state results from time to time. This is great information to share with parents who ask about our district!
(As a reminder, while individual student reports may be shared, group scores (at the building, district, or state level) are still under embargo and may not be shared outside of the school corporation. That embargo will be lifted September 4th.

ILEARN Data Dive
ELA- This one is a bit easier to read. You can look across each row and see the same standard expressed in each grade level. (Main idea spans across the row from 3-8, so does narrative writing, etc.) To check out our +/- as a district, scan each row across for green/yellow/red trends.
Math- Math standards aren't as easy- even though there are similar concepts throughout, they don't really translate across grade level to grade level as ELA does. What I did was organize all standards into categories (Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, etc.) To check out our +/- as a district, scan each section as a whole and try to look at like concepts.
Grade 3-8 staff in each building will be reviewing ILEARN data during PLC/Faculty/Department meetings and reporting out on things that stand out, areas of strength, areas in need of improvement, ideas for changes that may be needed, etc. (Your building admin will talk to you more about this.) I am hoping this data may also help as you have these conversations.

Schoology Parent Access Update
Schoology Building Reps
As a reminder, Schoology Building Reps in each building are your go-to folks for all Schoology content-related questions. They are leading the way in creating courses and they are the first line of defense when there are questions or issues that arise. They received initial training over the summer and are in contact with the reps from other buildings when there are issues. They also have Schoology training accounts they can access with additional information. If they cannot answer your question, they will put it out to the group or work with me to contact Schoology directly. Please utilize these outstanding teachers- they are an amazing asset!!

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Into Reading Back-To-School Info
The professional development trainer that led our end-of-summer training shared this resource with me to pass along.
On this padlet, you will find:
- Tips for digital resource access/usage
- Lesson outline documents
- Scope and sequence resources
- A Lexile level correlation document (super helpful for those of you that use NWEA)
- Sight word lists for grades K-5
- iRead correlation documents for grades K-2 (for the HMH iRead online program, not to be confused with the Indiana iRead3 assessment)

RIT Reference Charts
NWEA has published a brochure that may be helpful to utilize with parents that ask questions about what their child's RIT score means. This may be a good visual to use during Fall Conferences to illustrate the level their child is currently performing compared to grade-level expectations. (It also may be a good visual for staff that may not have seen tests at grade levels other than the ones they are teaching.)
