Reader's Workshop
- READ, READ, READ, and READ... Your little readers are taking off! Please be sure to read the "book bag" books the night they come home and then return them the next day. Read them once, twice and even three times! It is amazing what these kids can do!
- Review, practice, read and write all letters and sounds both capital letters and lowercase letters.
- New Sight Words: here, there, up, down, under, over, on, off, said, what, will
- Comprehension: When reading a book to your child, make sure to ask them Who? What? When? Where? Why? questions. Talk to them about the characters and their similarities and differences. Ask them about the problems in the story and the ways the characters solved those problems. Get them thinking! :)
Writer's Workshop
Authors are always trying to make their writing better! Kindergartners are no exception. This month we started talking about writing goals and the kids set their own personal goals. Do they want their writing to have more detail? Do they need to work on spacing their words? What about phonetic spelling or neat handwriting? After setting their goals we will have "writing conferences" to see how they are doing! This is a big step for your child and I am already seeing some great progress!
Continue to help your child with their writing by encouraging them to write for pleasure. Have them make your grocery lists, write you letters, make up stories. etc The more they write, not only will they become better writers, but also better readers!
Math Workshop
Student Led Conferences-Monday, March 16th
If you would like an individual conference, let me know. I can definitely find a convenient time to talk to you about your child. They are my favorite topic!
How can we prepare for extreme weather in the Sonoran Desert?
Our driving question for this PBL is "How can we prepare for extreme weather in the Sonoran Desert?" To solve this we first need to find out what types of weather we have in the Sonoran desert. Recently the kids have been researching rain and clouds. Next they will they will look into sunny weather, tools researchers use to predict the weather and extreme weather conditions. Once we have the background information we will be creating PSA's to help our peers and their families be ready for any type of weather that may come their way!
I am still looking for a meteorologist to visit with the kids as well as a dermatologist to talk to the kids about sun care. If you have any connections in either of these areas, let me know! Thanks!
Can You Help with Field Day?
Anything Else? Of course! :)
- Germs have hit our class hard! Keep germs at bay by washing hands, coughing into elbows and using tissues. If your child is sick, please keep them at home to rest. Remember 24 hours fever free is the ticket to come back to school! Thanks for your help!
- To help keep germs at bay we are needing donations of sanitizing wipes. If you can help us out, I sure would appreciate it!
- Finally, thanks again for all your help both at school and at home! You are terrific!
