Mrs. McArthur's Class Updates

April 2014

Hello Parents!

It's difficult to believe the school year is coming to a close. The kids have been working hard and really blossoming. One of the many reasons I love teaching third-graders is I get to witness their transformation throughout the year. They enter in August being a little unsure of themselves and their abilities, but wow, do they take off towards the end!

In Math, we're working on probability and statistics. Soon we'll start our STAAR review prior to the test. In Science, we're studying inherited traits and learned behaviors. The STAAR Math test is April 22nd and the Reading is April 23rd. Please ensure your child gets a good night's sleep.

I need your help! (It's a secret!)

Every year I put together a little pre-test motivational video for the kids. If you're willing to participate, please send me a picture of yourself, grandparents, family pets, etc. Most parents hold up a "good luck" sign or give a thumbs-up, etc. Please do NOT tell your child about the video as it will be a special surprise for them. I play the video the day before the STAAR test and tell the kids it's a video on test-taking strategies. You should see their faces when they realize that it is actually their families and teachers letting them know that we support them and are so proud of them! It's a great way to alleviate the anxiety they might be feeling that week.

I'll send the video link home after the kids see it, so you can check it out also. Soooo, if you'd like to participate, please send me your pics ASAP to the contact info below. (If for some reason, the school email bounces back--my home email is: Again, please keep it a secret so we can give them a great surprise. :) Thanks, Mrs. McArthur
