Make-up assignments for medically excused students
Students who are absent from school for medical reasons are encouraged to check Schoology for their missing assignments and coursework. Students are encouraged to complete assignments on a daily basis, during their absence, when possible. When a student needs to be out of school for an extended period of time beyond 10 days, a homebound learning plan will be developed to help the student keep up with the coursework.
Remember to report students absences by calling the school attendance office:
EAST: (847) 451-3035
WEST: (847) 451-3100Immunizations reminder
State school code requires all students to provide proof of a physical examination and mandatory immunizations prior to October 15. According to these laws, the district is obligated to exclude students from school who are not in compliance by that date. Students who have missing forms will be notified directly in the coming weeks. We ask for families to help in ensuring these requirements are addressed so that students may remain in school.
Pick-up & drop-off procedures
Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you please refrain from stopping on Wolf Road to pick-up and drop-off students. We want to keep our students safe so we ask that you please use the circle drive for pick ups and drop offs.Susana (Susy) Held, a dean at East Leyden, was recently honored for an award she was nominated for by her former district back in spring of 2021. Held earned an Illinois State Board of Education Student Support Personnel Meritorious Award for her role as a bilingual school psychologist at Maine East High School.
Congratulations Susy! We are so grateful to have you here at Leyden!

Franklin Ave. & Gustav St. Intersection
The Village of Franklin Park is beginning construction along Franklin Avenue between Ruby St. and Rose St./25th Ave. The purpose of the project is to create safer pedestrian crossing routes and ADA compliant ramps and crossings and to beautify the parkway. The project scope includes the removal of all asphalt pavement and some concrete sidewalk at the intersection of Franklin Ave. and Calwagner St., partial asphalt pavement and concrete sidewalk removal at the Franklin Ave. intersections with Atlantic St. and Gustav St., and the full removal of all brick pavers within the Village right‐of‐way along Franklin Ave. between Ruby St. and Rose St./25th Ave. Once removals are completed, storm sewer improvements will be made. Then the curb will be installed followed by new sidewalk, colored stamped concrete and asphalt pavement.
The work will be starting on Thursday, August 25 and is expected to be finished by November 14, 2022. Work will be from 7:00am to approximately 5:00pm during weekdays.
