Bubble Gum Days - February 4th-14th

During bubble gum days students are invited to chew bubble gum during their media resource time. Bubble gum will be provided to students and we will read and play games related to Bubble Gum. This celebration was originally designed as a library or school fundraiser. We will collect quarters during media resource and use the proceeds to purchase new Bubble Gum books for the media center. Currently our print and eBook collection of gum books is growing to meet the needs of the student population. Please send in a quarter with your child on their next media resource day starting in February with Media Resource Day F. Chewing bubblegum is optional and you may send your student with an alternate treat.

Students can also access Bubble Gum Books from home on MackinVia by clicking this link: Bubble Gum Books. If you would like to try out some fun Bubble Gum Activities click here. The link below will take you to our library catalog collection to see all of our books and e-books about Bubble Gum.

Litreracy Week and Reading Rally Magazine Fundraiser

Our Literacy week events were a big hit with our students. There were lots of magazines read and purchased. The reading buddies dangled with delight as students had fun learning about periodicals and the multiple genres that are provided in magazines. Thank you to everyone who has helped our school build a Little Free Library. It's not too late to get a magazine, a tervis cup, or another great gift while supporting our Safety Patrols' and News Crew's joint service project for the community. Use the link below and our school will benefit from your order for the rest of the school year. More information on the benefits of reading magazines with students can be found at Teaching with Magazines. Thanks again for your support!

Awesome Author Visit with Lisa Graff

We had a great day with author Lisa Graff. There were 3 presentations, an author signing, and a fun lunch. Many students have read her books and collected brag tags to celebrate their reading success. Students can still get brag tags for reading her books if your child is interested. We have lots of pictures with our author and if you would like a copy, send Mrs. Ayrish Booysen an email (shannon.ayrishbooysen@stjohns.k12.fl.us).

Did you get to purchase one of Lisa's Graff's books? If not, there are still a few paperbacks left in the media center. They cost $5 or $6. Stop by the media center and pick one up.

Birthday Book Club

The Palencia Elementary School Media Center’s Birthday Book Club is a wonderful way to commemorate your child’s birthday. Your participation not only enriches the library collection, but allows you and your child to be personally involved in its growth.

To take part in the Birthday Book Club donate one new undamaged hardback book. This book should be a book that your child enjoys and one that we don’t have in the media center already. You can choose a new book at the book store or a new book from the Book Fair. A quick check of our library catalog (Destiny) will tell you if we already have the book. If you would prefer, you may make a monetary donation of $15 and your child can choose from recently acquired books that are waiting to be put on the shelves. For more information, contact the media center.
