2A Classroom Update 12

Home of the Golden Lions

April 8, 2016

Dear Families,

Our second term is in the books, and we are off to a great start for our final term of the school year!

We are launching a new unit in reading. We will be returning to fiction texts and focus our reading skills on understanding and relating to the characters in a book.

In writing we're putting the final touches on our informational texts and getting ready for our new unit where we'll write to express our opinion or persuade our readers.

In math we began a new unit as well. This unit will provide the foundation of multiplication and division- what students will be learning in third grade. Throughout this unit, students will look at different situations with equal groups and learn strategies to solve these types of problems.

In inquiry, we are beginning our Bridges unit. We will start this unit by exploring geography, specifically New York's land features and its relationship to the inhabitants.

Thank you again for coming to our curriculum share. The Golden Lions worked very hard on their dance, their artwork, and their unique logos. They were excited to share everything they learned. These cats can groove! These cats can roar!

We'd also like to thank you for another wonderful set of parent teacher conferences. Once again, we appreciate the partnership, the thoughtful conversations, and the laughs. We look forward to continuing our partnership and ending the year on a high note.

As always, thank you so much for contributing and supporting our community. Special shout-out to Ms. Saltzman, Mr. Ade, Mr. Yaran, and Mr. Bilanow for their great support during our trip to Ellis and LIberty Island. Pictures to come in the next Smore!

Enjoy your weekend,

Courtney and Zondwayo

Golden Lion of the Week

The March learner profile is principled. The April learner profile is inquirer.

Nev was the Golden Lion of the Week for the Week of April 4th. Here are some of the reasons his classmates nominated him:

-"He is curious."

-"He loves to read. He reads to learn."

-"He is curious about things he wants to know. He tries things that are new."

  • Families will be invited to our All About Writing Celebration where students will read their writing pieces that they have been working so hard on. It is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, 2016. More information to come!
  • The April birthday celebration is set for Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:00pm. Families with students with April birthdays interested in coming can email our 2A class email.
