Betsy's Bits
November 12, 2018
Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the veterans and family of veterans on our staff. We appreciate your service to our country.
In Case You Missed It:
Weeks like last week make me realize how fortunate I am to work with such a caring and supportive staff. Many of you still may not realize that Morgan, my youngest that just had knee surgery, broke her leg on Friday. This is the same leg she had knee surgery. When we went to the doctor on Wednesday, she was able to get off her crutches. Friday morning she was furniture shopping with Rodney and I got the call. The break is right below were the screws are located from her surgery. We really do not understand why it happened, but it has, so now we are back to the beginning of recuperation. With all the other events and happenings from last week, I probably have not remembered to do things I may have promised. Please accept my apologies, let us get through our Showcase tomorrow and then please remind me in an email.
I appreciate everyone giving flexible hours for parents to enable them to come and pick up report cards. I stayed Tuesday and Wednesday at the front desk from 4-6pm to open the door and get parents signed up for Parent Portal. I was impressed with the volume of people in and out of our doors. If a parent did not come in, please attempt to call to speak directly to the parent or email to set up a time to talk briefly in person or the phone. If you speak directly to the parent or guardian, face-to-face or on the phone, you may send the report card home.
Please contact the front office or an admin if the numbers you have in PS don't work. We can send you all the numbers in PS. *If you get any new numbers or information from a parent or student, please always put this in an email to Yanira. She will update it in the system.
We have 56 visitors coming tomorrow. The majority are from Chapel Hill/Carborro Schools. We also have groups from Charlotte/Meck, Vance Co, and one individual from UNC Hospital School. I have shared the schedule for tomorrow's Showcase and the lesson plan template. Don't forget to leave your door OPEN and have the clips on your lesson plan if you are being visited. Please have at LEAST 8 clips (extras can be found in the mail room). We must have places for everyone to visit when on your hallway. If you are new to SLMS and do not want visitors, you are still required to have the lesson plan outside your door, but should keep your door closed.
Staff should either dress professionally for Showcase or wear an AVID shirt (Nat Demo, black AVID, etc) with khakis or dress pants/skirt. No jeans or college wear tomorrow.
Please do not have students line up on the RISE wall with the Stallion. This is chalk and will smudge very easily.
Reaching and Rising TOGETHER!
