DISTRICT AREAS OF FOCUS AND IMPROVEMENT:
- Equity and Social Justice
- Improved Instruction
- Family and Community Partnership
Cardinal Parents, Students, and Staff:
Some Cardinal Keys to Success:
- Aim high! You'll never hit the target that you're not aiming at. Set your sights high. Go for greatness. Don't underestimate yourself or settle for less. Figure out what you want for yourself and focus on that goal. Be relentless in your mission to accomplish that goal. Keep your eyes on the prize.
- Work hard! The key to life is not trying to avoid the struggle. That's not even possible. There will always be struggles that we must face in life. The key is strengthening your skills and your character to be able to work through and beyond the struggles of life.
- Accept your responsibilities. Maturing and growing up requires you to acknowledge and accept your responsibilities. Hiding from your responsibilities usually just snowballs into bigger problems. As a student, you are responsible for your academics, attendance, and behavior. You may also have responsibilities as an athlete or club member. You probably have responsibilities at home, and you might be responsible for a part-time job as well. Take ownership of your responsibilities and live up to the expectations of those around you.
- Make friends with people who want the best for you. A real friend is someone who should make you feel better about yourself and want to see you succeed. Be careful who you're spending time with. You may have heard the comparison of toxic friends to a bunch of crabs in a bucket or a boiling pot of water. When one crab starts climbing its way out, the others will pull it back down. You need to surround yourself with friends you can trust who will lift you up and celebrate your success. You should be doing the same for them.
Cardinal Strong!
Additional items:
- Tardy Policy: Students who are not in class when the tardy/start bell rings are considered tardy. Because we understand that life gets in the way and that sometimes there are legitimate reasons to be tardy, each student is allowed five "free" tardies per quarter, without consequence. Please see below for a list of consequences that occur for tardies six through ten. Research shows that students who are frequently tardy tend to have lower GPAs, lower scores on standardized assessments, and lower graduation rates. For this reason, FPHS will be placing a heavy emphasis on getting to class on time in the 2022-23 school year. Tardy 6 and 7: Assigned Lunch Seating; Tardy 8 and 9: Assigned Study Hall (after school); Tardy 10+: In School Suspension + Contract with Dean of Students.
- Every enrolled student has access to a breakfast and a lunch at no cost through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. If students wish to purchase a la carte items or a second meal, they will need to have money on their account or pay at the time of purchase. It is easier and faster if students already have funds in their account. Payments are accepted at all schools by cash or check. Over the phone payments can be made with the Nutrition Services office at 253-298-4618, a $10 minimum is required with a Visa or Mastercard. Online payments can be made through the Skyward Family Access online prepayment link.

CARDINAL SPORTS!
If you are interested in getting connected with a program there are a few things to know.
- If you already registered for that sport this school year, then your registration is still valid for summer participation as long as your physical is current. Physicals are good for two years.
- Franklin Pierce High School has switched registration platforms from Family ID to Final Forms. At this time, all athletes will need to register for their sport on the Final Forms platform before being able to turn out for sports in the fall!
- Here is the current contact information for coaches at Franklin Pierce HS. Please reach out to these coaches for additional information about their summer plans.
Counseling Corner:
- Class of 2023: 24 Credits
- Class of 2024: 24 Credits
- Class of 2025: 28 Credits
- Class of 2026: 30 Credits
College in the High School courses:
We are excited to offer multiple College in the High School (CHS) courses at FPHS this year. If you are enrolled in a CHS course, you have the option to earn college credits by successfully completing the course. Please, note:
- Paying for the college credit automatically starts an official college transcript with the institution offering the course that will include the student's grade earned.
- Fees apply for students who choose to enroll in a CHS course to earn college credit. There is no fee for students who take the course for high school credit only.
- College credit fees are as follows:
- Central WA University: $60/credit
- Eastern WA University: $65/credit
- University of WA: $66/credit, plus a $45 registration fee
- Courses typically earn five credits. Fees are collected by the University at the beginning of the fall semester.
- EWU does allow a payment plan for students.
- Tuition assistance is available to students who qualify for free and reduced lunch services.
NEW Performing Arts Center!
We are very excited about breaking ground on our new Performance Arts Center! We are in eager anticipation of the day that we can fully showcase the talents of our band, orchestra, choir, drama programs, and so much more!
- Part of the "cost" for a new Performing Arts Center is going to be a little dust, a lot of change, and even a few inconveniences. Please, bear with us as we work through the "under construction" phase with an estimated completion date of the start of the 2023-24 school year.
- Student and Staff Parking: All staff and students must park together in the parking lot alongside 112th St. The section nearest the tennis courts is reserved for staff parking. The section nearest the stadium is reserved for student parking. Students and staff must drive all the way around the school to access the new student/staff parking lot. Please, do not cut through the drop-off and pick-up zone to park.
- AM student drop-off and PM student pick-up and zones. Please, do not park in the drop-off and pick-up zones between 7:30am and 3pm. The drop-off and pick-up zones will be the same for 2022-23 as they were for the end of 2021-22.
- Main Entrance: The former main entrance to the building is no longer accessible. The new main entrance is on the south end of the main building near the student pick-up and drop-off zone.
- Handicapped Parking has been relocated to the stalls in the drop-off zone nearest the new main entrance.
- Bicycle Parking has been relocated to the 1400 building (outside the band classroom).
- Pedestrians in the drop-off and pick-up zone should use the pedestrian walkway along the fence line.
- As with all construction projects, almost everything is subject to change. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
