Important Information Regarding Virtual Learning the Week of January 4-8, 2021
Important Information Regarding Virtual Learning the Week of January 4-8, 2021
Over the past several months, we have had great success at LES following a structured schedule while providing live, virtual instruction for several classes that have had to quarantine this school year. Our teams have worked very hard to prepare the students for this upcoming virtual week after the holidays, and we are confident that our students will be able to continue to learn at high levels in this format. Please watch for an individual classroom schedule with a cover letter explanation and a behavior matrix from your child’s teacher this week, so you will know what to expect the week of January 4-8. This schedule will be for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays will be as they are in our current schedule, so teachers can connect with students who are not able to participate fully in our daily schedule. Lessons will continue to be posted in SeeSaw for K-2nd grade and in Google Classroom for 3rd and 4th grade. It is very important that students are logged in and ready to learn when the day begins. Attendance will be taken each day and based upon student participation and work completion. During work time between lessons, students should remain online so teachers can monitor their work, provide additional support as needed, and answer any questions. Every classroom will have a link provided that students will use every time to access their class. Your child’s teacher will be providing you with information on where to access this link.
*If your child is unable to join their class at the beginning of the day for virtual instruction due to illness or another reason, please notify the classroom teacher.
You can expect a common morning break and lunch time for all students that attend LES. The morning break will be from 10:05 – 10:20 A.M., and lunch break will be from 11:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. Every class will also have at least one special built into their schedule each day (M,T,Th, & F).
Tips for Success
- Establish a designated work space for each child (at a table or desk if possible).
- Organize the work space ahead of time with their charged or plugged in device and learning tools (pencils, materials from school, books, etc.).
- If you have multiple children working in close proximity, make sure they each have headphones to minimize distractions. If you need them to bring home the pair that they use at school, please remind them or send a note to their teacher. (NOTE: Even if a child has headphones on, everyone else in their virtual classroom can hear what is going on in the background if they are not muted.)
- Keep a printed copy of your child’s schedule near their workspace or in a common area. A printed copy will be coming home in your child’s Thursday folder this week if not before.
Virtual Learning Etiquette
- Be dressed, have breakfast eaten, and be ready when the virtual day begins
- Sit up and use whole body listening during class time (no lying in bed, on the couch, etc.)
- Keep your video on while your teacher is teaching, so he/she can see if you have any questions
- Keep your microphone muted until it is your turn to speak
- Turn off music, TV, put toys away, and don’t play with your pets, etc., during instruction and work time

Please be sure to pack a change of clothes & mask in your child’s backpack
An extra mask, shirt, pair of sweatpants, and pair of socks are very helpful in case of run-ins
with puddles at recess or milk spills at lunch. We have a very limited supply
of items to loan, and when we run out, we will need to phone a parent to get dry
clothing.
Lunchroom Supervisors Needed
We are looking for Lunchroom Supervisors from approximately 10:45am – 1:45pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You would be working with a specific grade level by assisting the students in the lunchroom, as well as supervise them outside on the playground during lunch recess.
This is a paid position! If you love working with children this is the job for you! Please click on the "Application for Lunchroom Supervisor" below. Fill out the application and you can bring it to the office, or send it to jane.gennerman@pwssd.k12.wi.us.
