A2 Virtual+ Elementary News
November 6, 2020
Dear Families,
As of this writing, the presidential race is yet to be determined. This is a challenging moment for our nation, but also an opportunity to discuss the election process with our children. “Talking to children about the election can make the process more understandable and lay the foundation for them to develop into engaged, informed voters as adults.” (Bologna) Further, there is research that indicates that children care about elections. (Moyer)
The election has left us in what Dr. Suess calls “The waiting place… where everyone is just waiting.” It can be helpful, at these moments, to think about things we can do. So, while we’re waiting, consider checking out these resources to support your child’s understanding of current events:
The Electoral College, Explained for Kids by Emily Tisch Sussman, Parents
How to Explain the Election and Voting to Kids by Caroline Bologna, HuffPost
How To Explain To Kids Why The Election Isn't Decided Election Night by Erin Geiger Smith, Romper
How to Talk About the Election With Your Kids Even if You’re Stressed by Melinda Wenner Moyer, New York Times
Or, if you need to take a break from current events, consider sharing a good book. (See the Tech Tip article below with information on how to access Mrs. Othman's recent read-alouds.)

Second Semester
As our middle/high school counterparts have begun to register students for second semester, I have had several families reach out to inquire if A2V elementary students need to re-register for the second semester. They do not. We will provide an opportunity for families to verify their intention to remain in the A2Virtual+ Elementary program as we near the second semester, which begins in mid-January.
Food Distribution: To Go Meals for Students
AAPS, working with Chartwells Food Service, is pleased to provide “to go” breakfast and lunch meals available for pick-up Monday and Thursday each week. Please click here for details regarding time and location.
