St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! In honor of my Irish roots, I decided to make a semi-Irish meal today. I'm not a real fan of lamb so instead I'm going to make a patty melt. While that is not so Irish, I am going to make colcannon which is an Irish potato salad. I make mine with shallots, leeks, Napa cabbage, and green onions. The dish is nothing but a jazzed up version of mashed potatoes, but so good!

Some of my New England family members still keep in contact with our Ireland family members (their close cousins, my distant cousins). I have never met them, but would love to go visit Ireland some time and meet them. My paternal side of the family is from England and Ireland while my maternal side of the family is from Hungary. As with Ireland, I would love to go to Hungary to see where my grandparents lived. Someday, when I win the lottery, these dream trips will become a reality!

  • PD SESSION: As discussed previously, the PD session this week will focus on staff members sharing examples of two-column notes you have used with your classrooms. Please email me an example by 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. I will download them to my computer to make it easier to share during our PD session. If you have done two-column notes on chart paper, you could just bring that to the meeting. No need to take a picture and send it to me unless you want to. Our PD session on the 24th will focus on top-down topic webs. :-)
  • STATE TESTING: ISTEP testing will wrap up on Monday for grade 3-6 classes. We will still have some make up tests to do, however. IREAD-3 will be given Tuesday and Wednesday morning, but we will not need to run on a 2-hour delay schedule those days since testing only involves third grade.
  • eLEARNING: This Wednesday, we will have one hour of eLearning for all. This is to make up the extended hour we missed this past Wednesday. Students will need to take home their iPods and iPads in the padded envelopes you received. Fifth and sixth graders will take their laptops home as usual. Students should complete their homework assignments for Wednesday on their devices.
  • END OF NINE WEEKS: Just a reminder that the end of the third nine weeks is next Thursday, March 27. :-)
