First Fire Drill for the Year...
Thank you for efforts in our first frill drill of the year. After reviewing our plan with the local fire inspector, we will be making two small changes:
1. We are rerouting the classes that go to the parking lot by the administration building to the area behind the gym. We will send out new maps that note the changes.
2. All students and staff will need to make sure that they are 10 feet past the red fire curbs to allow space for fire equipment and personnel. Our goal is to keep everyone out of the way of firemen and safe.
All students and staff were out of the building in 1 minute and 40 seconds. All students were accounted for in 3 minutes and 10 seconds. With practice, our times should improve.
Please let Mrs. Davis know if you do not have red/green signage. We use the signs to get everyone accounted for quickly. Please store the signs and class rosters close to your door. Thanks for your help!
THE LVMS BLEACHER REPORT...
Cross Country (Coach Karg)
This is our inaugural season!!
The LVMS cross-country team was up at the crack of dawn and on a bus to Lockhart at 6:15 Saturday morning. 25 athletes competed at the Lockhart Invitational meet. The athletes raced a 1.25 mile course. Our school was one of about 50 schools in attendance, with almost 1200 runners from the varsity to middle school level. Representing our team was, Ben Carlton, Preston Coffey, Ethan Arnold, Tristan Arambula, Mallory Webb, Itza Cantera, Layne Powers, Anson Eleuterius, Rhett Kahlden, Noah Hernandez, David Rague, Aiden Panter, Colin Priddy, Esther Long, Addie Womack, TC Cagle, Katelyn Coldicott, Leah Coldicott, Schuyler Burke, Skylar Stefka, Lindsey Bell, Jade Beadles, Rileigh Oliver, Leah Joslin, and Haylee Cosgrove.
We raced with heart and determination and every athlete finished with an impressive kick at the end. Standout athletes this week include 7th grader Esther Long, 8th grader Itza Cantera, and 7th grader Layne Powers. Esther finished 9th overall and Itza right behind her in 10th place. Layne Powers was the first Lago runner across the finish line with a time of 8:19. Middle school athletes compete in one race with 7th and 8th grade boys competing against each other, and 7th and 8th grade girls competing against each other.
We will compete in Jarrell this Saturday, September 5th.
Volleyball (Coach DuBose & Coach Holt):
LV Middle School Volleyball participated in their first game against Jarrell Middle School yesterday afternoon. I am so proud of these girls for all their hard work and dedication over the past 2 weeks. Our 8th Grade B Team won their volleyball match in 3 sets with a third set score of 15-13. It was such an exciting game to see. Anyone that knows volleyball knows that there is a lot the girls have to cover in such a short amount of time. I have no doubt that these young ladies will continue to get better with each practice and each game.
The 7th and 8th grade A teams will participate next Saturday in the Robinson Tournament. Thank you for all your continued support. We love our Vikings!
COUNSELOR'S COUCH...
Happy Labor Day from the Counselor’s Couch! This year, I will be reaching students
in a variety of formats. All students will have monthly classroom guidance lessons
which will begin this month. In addition, I will be doing individual and group counseling, and lunch bunches. Our focus this year will be character traits, friendship, kindness, and service! The first character trait is trustworthiness, and I will be stressing this trait as the foundation for all relationships.
