GMBA Highlight of the Month - Everything Beautiful is Not Ruined
Every month we highlight one of the nominees for the Green Mountain Book Award, Vermont's student choice award for high school students. All Vermont high school students who read at least 3 of the 15 selections will be eligible to vote for the winner in May.
This month's selection, Everything Beautiful is Not Ruined by Danielle Younge-Ullman, is a story about love, loss, and self-discovery.
Ingrid thought she was going to a traditional camp with cabins and activities. Instead she finds herself on a three week wilderness adventure. No cabins, lots of hiking with a heavy pack, and sharing tents every night with a group of teens who are addicts and convicts. How did she get to be part of this mix? In order to get what she wants out of a deal she made with her mom, she has to complete the three weeks. YA fiction that deals with depression and relationships.
QR Codes
A new feature on iphones, ipads and some Android phones is the ability to scan a QR code directly from the camera app. Simply open the camera app, focus over the QR code for 2-3 seconds and a browser notification pops up directing you to the URL. For other mobile devices you might need to download a free barcode scanner app.
You can easily create your own QR code. Perhaps you are making a poster for the science fair and would like to share a link to an informative video related to your subject. You can create and print the QR code for the video and attach it to your poster. There are many websites and apps to easily create QR codes. To create your own code try using the-qrcode-generator.com.
