Serve United

A strategic organization of the ACTS Group

The Film is in! Your School, Your Opportunity

These past few months, the ACTS Group has been able to partner with the non profit BeUndivided who chose Sacramento as one of three cities to provide training, resources and follow up care to churches interested in starting school partnerships in their neighborhoods. We have been so encouraged by the story of BeUndivided which began as a church in Portland that formed a long term relationship with a local school and resulted in a Documentary. Producer of this film, Jeff Martin, came down to Sacramento to create a short Sacramento film. We hope this film will encourage churches, school administrators, non-profits and business people in our region, and our nation, to see schools as a the strategic crossroads where we can find creative ways to meet needs and strengthen communities.

Please take the eight minutes to watch this film. It is well worth your time! And if you love it, share it with you friends, your pastor and your circles of influence.

Serving with you,

Stories of Service: Backpack Drive for Deterding Elementary School

American River Community Church in Carmichael were able to outfit some backpacks and comfort bags for Deterding Elementary School. Backpacks will be given to newly enrolled children arriving throughout the school year whose parents are unable to purchase the necessary items to equip their children to make a more comfortable adjustment to their new school. Comfort bags are designed to offer a child who is being removed from their current home situation a source of comfort with items such as a blanket, stuffed toy, toothbrush, a hair brush, puzzle books, candy and more. These bags of blessings were delivered on April 28th.

THANK YOU American River Community Church for loving kids in need at your local school!

Upcoming Service Opportunity: Operation Backpack

Each year, thousands of homeless and at-risk children in our local communities return to school without the basic supplies they need. Children who live in poverty or are homeless face many challenges and tremendous stigmatization – as a result, less than 25% graduate from high school. Preparing these children for school with a new backpack filled with school supplies boosts their self-esteem and gives them the tools and confidence needed to learn and thrive in school. With your help, Operation Backpack® has been able to provide thousands of backpacks, school supplies, and a variety of support services to poverty-stricken or homeless children throughout the Greater Sacramento Area, Bay Area and Reno, NV. Together, we are helping children learn and thrive in school, stay in school, and build a bright future.

Participate in Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack® and help children in need be prepared and excited for their first day of school! Click HERE for more information or contact Ana Bankert at
