Determining Fact or Fiction In Print and/or Images
Information, Misinformation or Disinformation ?
The facts and news we read daily falls into 3 broad categories. Information comes from reliable sources and provides facts about topics that are of interest to us. Misinformation is information that has be misreported and shared, thereby spreading incorrect facts to those who read and share. Disinformation is intentionally false information that has been created or altered in an effort to deceive people.
We all need to be careful when we share news, videos, rumors, etc., with our friends and family. We need to make sure we are only sharing those items that are true. This is not only true of news, but also of information about our friends and classmates. Please verify truth before sharing.

Is what I am reading REAL or FAKE?

2. Verify: Make sure you are reading is from a reputable source.
3. As you read, look for clues or ads that may show a hidden agenda.
4. Check some of the sites below, that are known to be non-partisan fact checking sites. The descriptions come from the websites.

Is this image real or altered/enhanced?
Alteration of photos is as old as the art of photoraphy. But todays images are easier to change than ever before. NoodleTools offers a guide for citing images that are used in projects and research that can help you look at images for signs of alteration. Another tool to help is the reverse image search TinEye. This search engine will show you where the image appears on the internet.
