Announcements for Week of January 14-18, 2018
Welcome to our newest staff member Mita Basak. Mita will be joining as a TA in Kindergarten. Please give her a big PUE welcome.
Smooth Moves: We hope that you enjoyed the Black Box Dance Company on Friday. Several of our staff showcased some smooth moves. They look like it was a preliminary to the Talent Show. Watch out students for Carolyn Rich, Peggy Freer and Carrie Stepnoski. If I missed recognizing any more of our "Smooth Moves" Dance Troupe amongst all the students on the stage please let me know so that we can recognize them, too.
Thanks to Sarah Fry and Ben Stern for arranging our Technology PD last Thursday. We've heard good feedback from the workshop. Sarah and Ben have arranged a second Technology PD in February on Thursday, Feb. 14th at 7:45 for a collection of additional tools. More to come from Sarah and Ben. If you have any feedback for Sarah and Ben please alert your team MTAC member.
WPAW Update: Heather shared that she and Ben are continuing to work with the new equipment to transition the show to digital from analog. Their Central Office support person's wife went into labor this past Friday so needless to say couldn't help with conversion process. In the meantime, Heather shared with me that staff should tune in on their TVs to the news which will be a simplified audio/visual broadcast until we can get up in running.
PTA Board Meeting, Tuesday Jan. 14 at 8:15. Please send a grade level rep to the meeting.
Dreambox Webinar, Thursday, January 17 at 7:45 in Media Center. Please be in Media Center, with your Dreambox page ready to start at 7:45.
In order to be ready for this session be sure to:
- Review your student data for average sessions completed each week, which sessions have been completed?
- Are your students on a 5-7 sessions per week pace?
- Do the sessions match up to foundational skills to which you are covering in class or haphazard usage?
- Are you comfortable with analyzing student data and how to adjust/assign new activities?
- Prepare any questions you might have for this sessions--If you have any ahead of time please send them to Kayla so that she can forward to our presenter.
- Remember that Dreambox is our primary math program that we have paid for as a tool recommended from the WCPSS math department to help enhance and strengthen ALL of our students' math skills. Programs such as Prodigy and other programs should ONLY be used as secondary practice IF the prescribed Dreambox weekly sessions have been successfully completed. Remember that Dreambox has been formally vetted and is a research-based tool, approved and recommended by WCPSS Math Department.
Friday, January 18, 2019- Friday is NO LONGER an early release day. Please make sure to alert parents to the change. We will also alert parents in the Sunday Message.
Emergency Readiness: If a child has a bloody nose do you know what to do? If an intruder came in your classroom, how would you respond? Are your students prepared for all types of safety drills (Lockdowns, Adverse Weather, Fire)? If you have concerns about safety or security, please bring them to the attention of an Administrator. You are responsible for knowing the location of your red bag, knowing lock down and other procedures, and keeping updated class rosters and other information in your plans and red bag. If you need more supplies, charts, maps, or other materials related to emergency readiness, please see Ms. Fricke.
Mid-Year PDP: All mid-year PDPs were due on Friday, January 11, 2019. Administrators will begin contacting you this week for a time to conference. Gather any information together that you would like to share with us so you are prepared.
