Thank you to the Reeceville Public Relations Committee for organizing the event, Mrs. Canning for calling BINGO, and the Reeceville PTA for the hoagie coupon donations.

Literacy Tips from Mrs. Washington, Title I Reading Specialist
December is a month full of gift giving opportunities, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, Diwali or maybe Festivus…😉. Winter is a perfect time to celebrate the joys of reading, of curling up in a warm blanket with a cup of hot cocoa and a new book. In Iceland it is a tradition for families to give each other books on Christmas Eve. It is called Jolabokaflod, which translates to Christmas book flood. The tradition began after WWII when many items were rationed, but paper was plentiful.
Whatever traditions your family observes or not, our winter break will provide time for reading books you and your children love. Some fun family activities around books may include:
· Read a book that was made into a movie. Enjoy both and discuss how they were the same or different. Talk about which each member of the family preferred and why.
· Read different versions of fairytales. Create your own family version.
· Catch up on a series or introduce one to the family.
· Act out a favorite book.
· Simply enjoy reading lots of good books!
“A book is a gift you can open again and again.”
