A Note from Dr. Burdett
Last week, I was reminded of the brief amount of time that we actually have with students. This year, including holidays, we will have the students for 41 weeks. If you would have placed 41 marbles in a jar at the beginning of the school year, and if you pulled one out each week, you would be left with 28 marbles in the jar. Think about that. We only have 28 more weeks with our kids! That is a sobering thought, but it does bring some things to mind:
- Time is precious and we will continue to do our best to utilize that time with each of our students.
- Our presence with our kids is one of the most precious gifts we can offer.
- Time is something that can never be replaced so we will maximize the time with our kids.
- Time is not something that we can fast forward. We will savor every moment.
As we continue our focus on thankfulness, I am thankful for the time that we have with each of our students. We cherish each moment that we have to support our kids and foster their growth as young adults. In some way, I hope this helps you to realize the limited amount of time that you have with your kids and that you put a premium on being present with them. Time is truly one of the greatest gifts you can give a child.
We had a great week at PHS! The Eagle Nation showed great generosity this week by donating over 3,600 items for our Stuff the Bus campaign and our kids paid to wear either PJs or a hat on Thursday and Friday to raise over $700 for our brothers and sisters at Thomas Jefferson High School! We are an extremely blessed community and we continue to share this with others. Special thanks to Mrs. Viars, Mr. Salas, and our StuCo Students for coordinating these events! In the photos below, you can see that Hope Squad brought in Gratitude Pumpkins for students to sign and they also "planted" a tree! The Acts of Kindness Tree is in the front entrance and students can post ideas on thoughtfulness, selflessness, and concern for others.
We had an Early Morning Pep Rally at 4:30 am on Friday where we hosted CBS Ch. 11. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our kids! Congratulations to Football on winning 58-27 against Plano Senior High School. In our first round playoff game this Friday, we will play Wylie HS at Wylie. Congratulations to Volleyball on being Area Champions by defeating Copperas Cove on Thursday night. Our next playoff round is this Tuesday at 7pm at Plano Senior HS and we will play Sachse-students are $4 and adults are $6. The first 100 students who come to the volleyball game will receive a FREE ticket to the football game on Friday night v. Wylie. In addition, we will have a spirit bus for students who need a ride and who fill out a bus permission form by 12pm on Tuesday to Mrs. Mueller (forms can be picked up from, and turned in to, Mrs. Mueller in the Administrative Office). Let's pack the house! Finally, congratulations to Girls XC, Coach Gegogeine, Coach Crisp, and Coach Morton on an incredible season that ended with a 3rd place finish at the 6A UIL State XC Championships on Saturday! We are so proud of our team and coaches. A special congratulations to sophomore Aubrey O'Connell on her overall first-place finish out of 152 runners. Aubrey had the fastest mile split of all 900 girls who ran, at all levels, at the UIL XC State Championships! Aubrey O'Connell is a STATE CHAMPION!!! We continue to see the incredible talent of our athletes compared to other student-athletes at the 6A level. In addition, our coaches continue to show their level of AWESOME by growing our kids AND making sure that they are successful in the classroom.
Mama Mia was a HUGE success and I am in awe at the talent in our Theatre Department both on the stage and behind the scenes! Likewise, Band finished the competitive season at Bands of America and they continue to show why our musical programs are some of the best! You can see some of the Band highlights below. Just as with athletics, our directors in Fine Arts have raised our level of performance while increasing our academic achievement!
A special Congratulations to Coach Mandy Weaver who recently awarded the Kim Enocksen Integrity award from the Texas Tennis Coaches Association! We are truly blessed to have Coach Weaver on our staff!
Please look at the calendar and see what you can attend. Our students would love to see you supporting them and noticing how our inputs are affecting our outcomes.

From the Counseling Office:
Dear Parent or Guardian,
The holidays are approaching and we want to make you aware of a program
available to support families in Prosper ISD while school is not in session. For Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break and Spring Break our school district is working with Lovepacs to help families supplement their food resources.
During these extended breaks, families often need double the amount of food they typically
use due to their students being home all day from school. Lovepacs work with area schools to provide families with additional food to cover their increased need within their family by supplying food packs.
These food packs will include items such as bread, rice, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, snacks, canned vegetables, canned fruits and canned meats— enough to feed your child breakfast, lunch, and snack each day of the break.
Prior to the holiday breaks, Lovepacs will deliver food packs to the school of your choice or deliver to your home for families that choose to participate.
No identifying information about your child will be shared with Lovepacs.
More information on Lovepacs is available at http://www.Lovepacs.org/Prosper
If you would like to receive a Lovepac, please click here to complete the online form by November 14, 2019 in order to participate for Thanksgiving Break. If you need assistance with the online form or have questions, please reach out to your child’s counselor.

Counseling in the News
College students who are accustomed to frequent monitoring at home are overwhelmed when they get on campus and often don’t seek help until it’s too late. What’s more, parents and their teenagers don’t always focus on sharpening the emotional skills that will serve them well in their new environment.
As the first two decades of the new millennium come to a close, many industries are in the midst of transformation. Two authors at Forbes Magazine offer five not-so-crazy predictions about how the U.S. market for four-year bachelor’s degrees will likely look quite different in 2040.
A new study has found an association between excessive screen use and a lower level of brain development among preschool-aged children. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that kids have limited screen use due to the possible cognitive behavioral risks.
The long overdue influx of female coaches into the NBA game has produced a surge of familiar ex-players with decorated careers. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers' newest hire, Lindsay Gottlieb comes from a different space. ESPN"s Jackie MacMullan explores.
