Weekly Coaching Communication
Make it a great day -- every day!
03-07 December 2018
Hats off to you!
Here's the past week's amazement*:
- Thank you, to the first half of teachers, for taking the time to complete the bi-annual IC survey. Your feedback really does mean a lot to me and helps me to better serve you. If you haven't completed the survey, yet, a reminder email should be in your inbox.
- Shout out to Mr. Chamberlin for sharing his experience and following though with the data team template and filling out steps 2-5.
- Thank you to all staff and students for your cooperation and the seriousness you took with the ALICE intruder drill -- your support of our students and each other makes our school a better place.
- Shout out to our Yearbook for helping to cut costs by having a fundraiser and selling Dog Pound T-shirts -- what a success and way to make memories affordable for all!
- Thank you Student Culture Team for planning the Game Day.
#nobetterplacetowork
Here's some amazing things happening in classrooms around the school:
Blended Approaches:
- Mrs. Dierks is using "Must do" and "May do" Playlists & Checklists with scheduled mini-lessons to prepare her pre-calc students for assessments
- Mr. Arends is using gamifcation with his English 9 classes
- Mr. Tupa implemented a new approach that increased student accountability with his Enlightenment Dinner
- Ms. Adams, Mr. Burke's student teacher, did an awesome blended approach to WWII using station rotations (Shout-out to Mr. Burke for guiding her in her student-teaching endeavor at CPU)
- Dr. Andersen's station rotation during labs allows students to discover learning in the lab, as well as to build background knowledge before experimenting
*As always . . . my intent here is not to leave out anyone, so if you know of some great things happening in this building, please send me a text or email so I can include them -- share the greatness that people are choosing to do for our learners and for each other.
HABITS of MIND CHALLENGE . . .
Last week I offered a challenge -- be thinking about what you may want to do to better your habits of mind (link to poster):
CHALLENGE: Choose one or two habits of mind in which you set a personal goal to better your own behaviors.
SUPER CHALLENGE: Share your goal(s) or set a goal with your classes in the second semester and include them in the change of their habits of mind.
The new semester starts January 14th, so begin to plan how you will handle the challenge, but you can join in on betterment anytime!
For the next several weeks, I will showcase a few challenges at a time for you to consider. The Habits of Mind cards provide an overview of the habit and 5 rounds of questions to help you and or your class think about that habit of mind.
In the picture below are the first 2 of the 16 habits of mind:
