AMCMS Principal's Office
What's Going on in the Principal's Office?!
My Challenge to You
Remember the above video? I first shared it last fall, in mid September. We were all still in our "getting to know each other" phase at that time, so I can understand if you were unsure of what to do with this sort of video... that inner voice may have been scaring you just because the new guy was doing things differently and sharing odd videos with you.
Watch the video again... it is only 4 minutes.
How about now? What do you think about when you watch this video? What is your should vs your must? Have you been able to take that risk you thought about early in the school year? Did you jump in with both feet and see what happens? As a teacher I want that for you. I want to you feel like you can take a risk in the classroom. Try different things and see how students respond. Keep working with what is working and make small adjustments as needed if it is not working -- that is RtI by the way -- and see how student learning changes.
Since the start of the school year I have observed many risks in the classrooms of AMCMS. There have been excellent curriculum discussions and changes to improve how we are meeting the needs of our students. Teachers are providing more opportunity for student movement and voice during class lessons and activities. There is a willingness to let other teaches into their classrooms and have conversations about what they are seeing and hearing while in the room. Teachers are sharing their thoughts and opinions in collaborative settings (department, leadership team, SELT, etc) to improve all aspects of AMCMS. It is wonderful to see all of these occur at AMCMS because this is what leads to doing what is best for students.
For me, I must continue to push you and your thinking... as well as mine. I must be prepared for the hard conversations that come with questioning everything and making the changes that need to be changed -- even if it is not what has always been done in the past. I must continue to challenge the status quo of AMCMS so that we are the best we can be as educators and as students.
It is your turn. What must you do or continue to do?
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff
